chips that add horsepower and mpg? good or bad for the car??
I basicly wanna know if any of these many chips are good for tuning or do you really get more power and better mpg? and if they do are they bad at all for your engine or do they break your engine or what ever. only thing on my 95 honda civic is exaust and K&N air filter..ha i know no power just want it to get more gas mileage mostly but if it add power thats a good bonus and if its ok for the engine i'm gunna get one and if you can recommend any that someone has tried thank you
here are some i looked at. $69 Honda CIVIC Chip - Gain 60 Horsepower Instantly

Don't do it they are junk look at the TQ/HP gains it promises. There's no way that's happening. The chips are not made for your car at your altitude more likely then not it won't be much better if at all. Try looking up hypermile stuff on the Internet. The first place to start it doesn't cost you money (the reason you want better gas milage) if you just work on your driving.
Many have tried even after advice not to do it. Will not add power, will probably lose power. Will not add mileage and will probably cause worse mileage.
OP will do it anyway. If you think $70 can get you 60-75hp go right ahead and install that thing like yesterday.
ughh..yeah figures.. anyone ever try it though? that can give some advice? cuz all thoughs answers dont sound for sure. but thanks for driving tips ha
Go ahead, you know you're going to get it anyway. Why don't you report back and tell us.

I think what people are trying to tell you, is that nobody here is stupid enough to pay money for that crap.
Those chips are rip off's/scams and only a complete idiot would buy one.
THAT is the reason nobody on here has bought one.
I am one of those idiots who has purchased one of those chips and can tell you they are not very safe for your vehicle. My motor was knocking something crazy after I installed the chip even with higher octane gas. Chip removed ran much better , I sold it and put money towards new tires much happier.
those ads that say ADD 90 HP and 15 MPG are specifically designed to take advantage of people. although there is a possibility one may be legit (certainly not for anything remotely close to the above claims). 99% of the time They're a waste of $$ This question has been resolved thousands of times. Do a quick search before opening a discussion, but good luck with the car and Read read read, and save yourself $$$$
ok thanks alot guys will not be buying the chip. anyone know of a good way to get more mpg's out of the little honda? or maybe i'll look for a different thread thanks though and if anyone wants to close this thread then go for it i'm not sure how to or if i can.
i use a warm air intake, i simply removed all the intake plumbing to pull cool air from outside so that now my cars pulls air from the engine bay. i have also added an airdam and run my tires at 42 psi front and rear. i usually achive high 40's to mid 50's on the highway and mid thirties on the low end in the city. this is also using some fancy driving.
you need the chip
you need the electric turbocharger
a hood scoop
and the fuel line magnet to get better gas mileage

i use a scan gauge to monitor my gains along with several trials. the warm air modification gains me on avg 3 mpg, more so during cold temps as it aids in getting the motor up to temp.
I was trying to figure out why a warm air intake would net more mpg then I realized why
Warm air is less dense, while not good for power, is good for milage since the ecu trims out fuel to compensate, correct?

Hot air atomizes fuel better, which burns it more efficiently. And pumping losses are less since the throttle needs to be opened further to allow more less dense air into the engine. So there is a more complete burn, and less power lost in pumping.
