Default 97 civic dx --> simple inexpensive/free mods to give engine more pep?

Are there any simple inexpensive or free mods that can be done to the engine to give it a little more pep?

I'm going to assume you're running stock d16y7. In that case, probably not. You can make it SOUND peppier by adding a intake. Otherwise, you're not gonna squeeze much more out of it then what you already have.

these are "free" but not really all that smart

cut off your cat (loud a-f), probably good for +6hp and -10tq
remove your intake, at least it'll sound cool if you're into racing around town

Please don't do any of the above, save for a swap or turbo

Im assuming an EX tranny is geared better for acceleration. Something that I didnt mention. Its an automatic. It cost me 1,250 last week. I know everyone is gonna hate on it for that. But it will serve its purpose well. I just changed the oil, hope 4 quarts isnt to much.

Please know WHAT you're talking about before you post. why would he want an auto b16...b16's are **** on torque 3-4 more ftlbs then a d16 I can't even imagine an auto one... and you mean auto to manual. If it's auto just leave it as is don't go dumping money into it as you'll first have to auto to manual it. Or you could just slam the **** out of it

I know they do note how I said "can't even imagine it" as in a figure of speech. it would be a TOTAL waste of money more so then bolt ons.

well i mean if a b16a is lets say 2000 max
and bolt ons that give him maybe 15hp more are 2000
its more economical to get the b16a
140hp d series bolt ons
160hp b series stock
b series also has dohc while d has sohc

not even counting the hp loss over the 16 years it's been in the car and how reliable the d will be

just sayin its a little more economical than bolt ons and if he wants power its going to cost him a lot more than normal just because its an auto
a good auto to manual conversion can cost upwards of 1000 for everything.

its just not worth it i understand what you're saying but an auto b16a would be something quirky on this site instead of the simple rebuild, k20 or type r turbo builds on this site.

Not even an option, it won't fit

yes in other countries, ek's came factory b powerd with autos but they never made it to the states, and the frames are different.
a auto to manual swap would be 50 times cheeper and easier to do.
also there are no mounts avalible for this swap, there would be a lot of custom work just to keep it a auto,
I have yet to see one that fits and/or works.

To the OP, your Auto D series tranny will hold you back, boost it and it will blow the tranny(There is one guy on this site who has pushed it a little with decent results but he has dumped money into it from what I recall). Your options are an engine swap with a 5/6 speed or a 5 speed swap then turbo.

THAT IS ALL.

You have no clue what you are talking about, just like my quote of you in my signature, everything you say is comical at best.

Please stop giving advice.
