Buying my firs honda I need some help!!!!
I'm looking at buying a 1996 honda civic cx hatch 5 it has a 2000 d 16 y 8 motor with the 200o wireing harness and comp and dash cluster but the 96 dash harnes the 2000 cluster doesn't work and the obd 2 port won't work now I was told if I get a 2000 dash harness it will work so I can pass Ohio e check is this right or what Ellis do I have to do to get the cluster and the obd port to work
i'd buy a car that already has that all figured out, people will say things to get you to buy their car. It'd probably just be a pain in the *** to be honest
the cluster wiring from 96-00 is pretty much the same wiring. So IDK why your wanting to change up the wiring.
This is the problem when you buy a car thats 15+ years old and most of the time its someone elses headache.
your also trying to mix a OBD2a car with a OBD2b wiring.

Best thing to do is find a clean factory fresh car.

Use some logic please? We can't answer that yes or no because, frankly, no one knows what kind of hack job wiring was done to it. Seriously.

Do you know the differences between OBD2A and OBD2B? It doesn't work because it is mix and match, these do not play well together. Everyone is suggesting you leave it be.
If you ignore countless amounts of advice, and end up buying the car, you need to put everything back to OBD2A.

ok.. heres my thoughts on this.
you need to leave the original engine wiring harness in the car. Use the proper OBD jumper harness for the proper ECU to run the engine.
As far as your cluster, try the original cluster you took out. If it works fine, then whatever cluster you bought is not working. Its not the wiring.
I have never heard of swapping dash harnesses to make a cluster work.
They are usually plug and play unless you have some off the wall JDM cluster or something im not familiar with. Im not a cluster compatibility expert.
Swap in a manual cluster from a 96-00 civic anduse the original wiring. If someone went under there and started screwing around with the wiring, its up to you to now go back under there and SOLDER/HEATSHRINK the colors back to original design.
This is all i can do to help your cause.
