crv just died
So we went on a trip. we got 160 miles got hungry and went to taco bell. while waiting on the food the crv just died no noises no warning but the naint reqd light popping on which we thought nothing off. tried jumping it but it has power so not the battery. friend is leaning towards timing belt? any pointers would be appreciated
Easy way to tell if it's a timing belt is remove the oil cap and have someone try to start it while you are looking at the valve train. You should see it moving when it's cranking, if not, then the timing belt snapped.
you should see the cams spinning while it's cranking ...if they spin, timing belt is ok , look at other possibilities.
also check the distributor, the 97-01 CRV's are notorious for having bad distributors.
removed a spark plug wire, hold close to the engine, and have someone crank the ignition, if distributor is good, you should see sparks grounding to the engine
sorry it is an 06 crv. totally forgot to say that. i do not know how else to put this but when trying to turn it over the engine acts as if it has no power making an almost identical sound to an almost dead battery. we tried a jumper pack and jumping it so pretty sure battery is not the issue. also all the accessories work windows headlights.
