Default Codes resetting on their own? OBD1

I bought my 94 LS about a month ago. In the beginning, a CEL would pop up and I would go to check it, but when I cycled the key on and off, the CEL wouldn't be there anymore.

I finally stalled the motor and checked them 2 weeks ago or so and I got 9 and 17, so distributor and VSS.

Since then, my CEL came on again a few more times and reset itself, but the last time, I stalled it, pulled it again, and got the distributor code (code 9).

My car VERY intermittently won't start, and it's often when it's hot, aside from one time. I'm going back and forth whether to think it's the distributor, especially for how expensive they are.

Anyone else ever had the codes reset themselves before?

No but if you say the car has trouble starting when hot it could very well be your coil going out.
