***ek9 mirrors wired to factory door lock remote***
I have a 2000 em1 and I just purchased a set of jdm ctr power folding mirrors. The mirrors come with pigtails and the switch. I was wondering if I can splice the "folding" wires from the mirrors to the lock/unlock door lock wires within the door. Would I need a relay?
Yes, you should be able to and yes, you will need relays, wire as "polarity reversing, ground at rest". 94

Thanks for responding. Should I purchase the jdm power folding relay or should I just pick up one from radio shack. Doesn't the power door locks use a relay?

You need the folding mirror relay to operate the mirrors as its the controller and timer, the trigger is just 12 volts positive, if you took the two wires going to the door lock actuator, and ran then to the ac in side of a small bridge rectifier, the rectifiers output is going to be a non reversed dc volltage whether lock or unlock, or you can. Wire a relay directly to the lock actuator, make sure its not a relayy with a built in diode
Let me get this straight, if I were to wire a relay directly to the actuator per door I can use the factory remote? Is there a specific brand relay I should purchase and if you can point out my options that would be great.
The door lock actuators on our cars are "polarity reversing ground at rest" the relays a built into the power door lock control unit, if you also have keyless entry, the4re will also be a keyless entry unit that supplies the PDCU with a low current ground pulse fore lock or unlock, that pulse is not very long, .5sec to .70sec. not long enough to open/close power mirrors.
If you have an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry yo may be able to adjust the lock/unlock output pulse, [depends on system], you can also add cappasitors to the ground pulse going to the mirror relays, [you will need two (2) SPDT 12V relays] to hold the relay on longer, it is just a matter finding the right size capasitor, [microfarad] that will hold the relay on long enough. 94

The power mirrors are triggered by a positive pulse to the. Control box, using a relay wired to the actuator should provide enough of a pulse duration, the company that makes the swx steering wheel control box also makes a pulse extender for this situation

OP does not have the relay or switch, but if he can get the the relay pack, [there will be two relays] then it would be the way go.
I have done a few folding mirrors using two SPDT relays so a neg.(-) pulse from an aftermarket alarms door lock outputs or EXT outputs could be used. and as Honda/Acura use neg.(-) pulse triggers for their OEM systems it would be an easy wiring job using two readily available SPDT relays.94

This is starting to sound a little complicated. I owned a ek a while back and I also had the ctr mirrors but they were intergrated with my viper alarm.
*I actually do have the switch with a pigtail, I don't have the relay*

if your set is like the older power folding mirrors, there is a set of motor wires from each mirror, those sets of wires tie together and go to the control box, the control box times long long the mirror motors operate and what direction they move, 12 volt pulse in, mirrors unfold, 12 volt pulse in, mirrors fold. I would use a separate output on your alarm to operate a relay for them, as they are going to drive you crazy folding and unfolding every time you lock or unlock the doors. you really need the control box though, it makes wiring them really simple

if it's a separate control box, the wiring is very simple, 12 volts, ground, and two wires that split off going to each mirror motor, plus one wire in that triggers the fold/unfold with 12 volts
I would like the easiest route to set up the mirrors. I was under the impression that wiring the mirrors to the factory remote or door lock switch would've been easier than running additional wires to both doors and switch.
Again, I have the switch with pigtail. I do not have the relay with pigtail at the moment.
