Want to build up a 90 DX Htbk and have some ?'s
What's up guys. Been lurking the site for a little bit. Scouring the web and coming up with a shopping list. I'll start out with my goal being a DD w/ ~240-250hp that has good handling and is reliable.
I've always loved these cars. 10 years ago I had one totaled sitting on the side of the freeway broke down. Wasn't the greatest day driving 2 hours with part in hand to fix and finding this instead: https://i.imgur.com/2z3HAL5.jpg
So. On to round 2 :/
First step is the rims and tires. I'll be ordering some 949racing +36 15x7 early next month. Does anybody have input on what tires are best at the price? Looking at 195/50/r15... Dunlop Direzza DZ101 vs BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 vs Yokohama S.drive any input? Or is there any good reason to go up to 205/50? Or even 15x8?
Second step is suspension. Since this is meant for street right now I'm looking at Eibach Pro Kit, which is what the old one had and I liked it, with Koni Str. Am I going to lose too much damper effect going with Koni Str? I want this thing to handle pretty well but I still gotta drive it on the street.
Upper strut I'm looking at Neuspeed since it clears the 1" w/ boost setup. Back looks like passwordjdm. I also plan so replace the bushings with the hardrace kit.
Is there anything else I can tackle as far as handling that gives a good performance boost? Is it worth it to install a rear sway? Do I really need LCA's if I'm going buy that hardrace kit? Are LCA's just bling?
Step 3 is brakes. I want to go the 11" front and 10.2" rear route. Front seems to be the decision. From the options that are there I want to go the EX route w/ Mini rotors. Here's the big question for me at this point. Recently was told I have the 23 spline because it was manufactured in 08/89 even though it is a 90 DX. So i'm going to have to replace the knuckles for a b16a1 swap correct? I know it's work but is it possible to put DA knuckles on an EX? Basically find a cheap running EX and snipe the knuckles and replace them with DA then flip it. Just spit balling on that one.
Step 4 will be the b16a1. This is a ways down unless things go well in the next 6 mo's. Is this engine reliable enough with arp studs and an upgraded head gasket on boost to drive daily at 240-250hp for a long time?
Step 5 will be the turbo. Haven't touched this really since I've got a lot to actually do before then.
I don't have a ton of money but this is something I feel I can do over the next year or hopefully sooner. I want to do this the most cost effective as I can, but done right....
Any and all feedback is welcome and I do appreciate it!
