Terified to start my car
Super long story, but essentially I cleaned my throttle body because the TB butterfly would not return to closed. this is after spending hours adjusting throttle cable tension , etc. So I sprayed carb cleaner in the TB and flooded it.
Tried starting, nothing, nothing.
Eventually realised Ive got no spark, rode my bike 26 miles today to get a new dizzy, Ive now got spark. Changed oil because so much gas had mixed with it, and now the new oil also smells of gas, hoping I can acutally drive yto get new oil tonight.
So im terrified of trying to get this thing started again because last time I did I burnt out my dizzy, and gasolined the oil.
What can I do the ensure I dont damage my new dizzy , or make my new oil worse ???

I'm interested in responses because I'm not sure how you can prevent damage to the distributor or make your new oil worse. What makes you think you have something to worry about?

Im worried that whatever happened before to fry my distributer is going to happen again and its not going to start and im going to be back where I was three days ago with a flooded engine , bad oil, and a broken dizzy.

nope, not paranoid. Just tried cranking it, nothing except a slight jump in rpm. Not a cough, not a sputter , nothing...

make sure youre getting spark at the plug and make sure the plugs arent fowled out due to the excess gas

Maybe I just haven't heard of the problem before but, gas in the oil?? That can happen by simply flooding the engine? Or is another problem that's been overlooked?

Plug order is correct, new dizzy installed correctly. Gas is in the oil because of flooding the engine, the excess gas in the cylinders soaks down past the piston rings and accumulates in oil. Cause oil to lose its viscosity , in turn making you lose compression.
Ive got Spark at all four plug wires, they are on correct, rotor turns when cranked (know timing belt isnt broken)
after I initially flooded it I did try jumping the starter so I could crank and test for spark, well I think I did that wrong because I had a nice size spark, I think thats what fried the dizzy. Maybe took out the Ignition switch also with it ??? could an ignition switch that turns the car on, and cranks it, still be bad ????
Would like to test it but cant find a manual for 89 crx dx. only ones I have are for JDM CRX or ef sedan, and the colors and such dont match up.
Pulled ECU last night, looks brand new inside, no burn marks or anything. When I turn car "ON" I hear pump prime, and as its priming I get the CEL until done priming then it clicks off. So I think my ECU is still good.
checked all under dash fuses with multimeter, all good. checking engine compartment fuses now with meter.
Really at a loss here, ready to take a loss and sell this thing. Anyone around Sarasota that wants to make $100 ?? come help me for 8 hours for $100. You dont have to be the best mechanic in the world but I would want you atleast to be as experienced as I am or more. 941-323-3505
