Default NRG quick relaese wheel w/hub lock considred added security ??

looking to add a bit of security to my car that I can "DIY" just wondering if ppl consider the nrg quick release wheel with hub lock a "security method" ?. I get the whole "if they want it they'll get it" a proper alarm would be best but my car has a half hacked in one that doesn't work and I'm no good with wiring things like that.
thx

I bought one for my teg as a security measure. I live in a college town and I get weird looks when walking to the front of my apt to check my mail with it in my hands. My windows are dark, so you cant tell the steering wheel is gone at night. I am sure a thief would be slightly surprised to see it if they ever did attempt to break in.

Now, if you are paranoid that someone will just use any wheel and NRG hub to make off with the car, buy a hub lock

Rip out the old alarm system and put a new one in? I am terrible with electricity (don't understand it 100%), and I would trust myself to install an alarm system. Just got done tucking the drive side harness in the engine (headlights etc) and had no problem. Just take your time and go slow.

Not much as a security layer, easily "bypassed" with...

A much more effective layer is to add a redundent, [not part of alarm] kill switch, or passive arming latching relay to kill power to the ECU/ECM or someting like that.

Besides, a steering wheel is not someting you can just put in your pocket, a real PITA if you going out to dinner or movie or anyplace for that matter.

Also it is one more thing that can fail, be lost or stolen, also a real PITA. 94

yes but I think they'd pass over the car with no wheel vs the one with one lol. plus they'd have to get the hub lock it's self off(see pic). Mainly I'd have to pay someone to install the alarm/remove the old one plus the price of the unit it's self. with the wheel I could "DIY" theft isn't a real concern where I currently live but I go back to school in Toronto in September and would like to take this car. last year I had my pos 4 dr civic lol(runs good) just has a horrid paint job I did my self. for carrying the wheel around I figure i'd just hook it on my backpack or under the seat if I went away from the car for an hour or so.

The hub lock prevents a crook installing another steering wheel the chain vice grip fits right over the hub lock, crooks are ******** not stupid.

Here in Kelowna we do not get a lot of car thieves but so far this year I know of two Civics and one Integra that were stolen, one of the Civics and the Integra had NRGs with hub locks and the other Civic had the ECU pulled.

I know of 1/2 a dozen more attempted thefts, [cars we have repaired wiring on] that did not get stolen because of a hidden redundant kill switch.

It's your car, I am just telling you what I beleave is a better layer, do both and make it real hard for the crooks.94

Hmmm will first have to attempt to remove the old alarm and fast ! I'm gone by the last day of the month and price/lean how to install an alarm. budget is around 300$ give or take any suggestions ?. car will be in a school parking lot most of the time w/cameras and the rest where I'll live not the best but not the worst part of Toronto. may just take the civic but it's embarrassing to be seen in as it looks even worse now.

Pulling an old alarm should be easy, find the brain, unplug harness plugs, fallow leads in plugs to where connected to cars wiring, disconnect and repair/cover connection point.

There should only be one OEM lead that may need to be reconnected, starter lead if a starter cut relay has been installed.

I would not car what my car looks like as long as it gets me from point A to point B, [my winter car is an 89 Chrysler Dynasty] and I would rather it was stolen then my Integra. 94

Its a good layer of security that's for sure. If you get it get the hub lock also.

as fcm said crooks are ******* bypassing alarm and removable steering wheel are a piece of cake your best bet is to eliminate all the weak point if thieves want your ride they will study it a bit before they attempt to do so, there nothing you can do to stop them from breaking in but there are thing you can do for them to take their time to the point where it just take to long and will eventually leave.

Got the wheel, installed and everything still need the hub lock as I said before this is by no means the worst part of Toronto but not the best either car will be in monitored parking lots most of the time.

Its a good investment now hurry up and get the hub lock because anybody with a detachable steering wheel can hop in there and use theirs.

who need a steering wheel when a chain vice grip does the job easily your better off with a auto x clutch lock and if you want more protection get a second one and lock the gas pedal too.

Will probably just do the hub lock and cart the wheel inside when I park it for the night/go to class.
