205/45r17's on 1990 CRX??
I've been looking at tire options lately for my Honda and I'm not terribly impressed with what's available for my size, the car currently has a set of Enkei J10 rims size 17x8, current tire size is 205/40r17, my car is lowered but not aggresively so, there's no rubbing issues at all, I can turn the wheel lock to lock without running, I'm wondering if going up to a 45 series tire will cause an issue and I'm curious if anyone has tried this, there's seriously better options in the 205/45r17 class, Michelin makes their pilot super sports in that size, anybody have any ideas?
Honestly, unless you're in love with your rims, I'd run 15s. But for your tire size, it's best to understand what the numbers mean. 40 vs 45 is a percent of the first number, 205. 205 is the width, 40 is 40% of the width, call it 80. And of course R17 is the rim size, 17 inches. The rest are in MM or something like that, I forget for certain. But to answer you question, it's 80 vs 90. Is it a big difference, not really. I think I run 185/45R15 on mine, which is a thinner tire than yours and the ride isn't bad. But the newer tire should give you a better ride and if the selection is that much better, go for it.
Here is a shot my my crx, with no engine in it, simply for transporting only. 17's are too big for ef cars....they weight more, and the tires are so low profile, they don't allow for enough give for regular street driving.
A set of 15" are lighter! and the tires size easily out performs the larger 17" size...but hey, they choice is yours

i can fit 205/14, on a 38 offset wheel. but thats with a bit of fender massaging, bending the lip a little more flush.
and youll want to remove the inside fender lining, it might catch and potentially rip off while driving.

I've never had any complaints about the 17 inch wheels, I do understand that a smaller rim would be lighter and that appeals to me, the 17's are the rims the car came with so I was just considering making do with them
