Another 89' Si project!
Okay so it all started when I was searching threw the numerous sales on Craigslist. And I stumbled upon another ad of someone selling a stock beat up running Ef Si for a low price of 1.100$
little to know…this was the Si Civic Style I Fell In-love with when I saw someone else’s build thread, Correction Restore thread. It had to do with a 1989 Civic Si.
For those that don’t know much of this, The 1989 Civic Si is a one year car only in North America. But it also shares many of the same styling as the JDM EF. But it is also a lighter car than the 90’/91’ Civic Si models.
The interior is also very rare as the pattern is a one year only style. Also in the USA it is the only Si to have the seat-belts Mounted on the pillar as 90’/91’ models have them on the doors, which gives quite a bit of an advantage to this model as many of the JDM & EDM parts are direct swap such as door panels & power windows.

I ended one day going straight after work from West Palm Beach City down South to Homestead. The ends of the Florida state almost, To Purchase this car. It was late at night when I decided out of nowhere I had to go. And I wanted it. No matter the costs or damage done I wanted this car.
I met up with the guy at a plaza around 3Am. I saw what I wanted and from there the rest is history.

We drove back home she gave us a few problems of slight overheating and a cloud of black smoke. So right then I knew this would be a problem. We arrived around 6am took a slight rest. And headed home.
and used my worn out shifty key to open the door checking to make sure the sunroof works properly.
Checking the inside with the light of day as it was very dark to check majority of these things late at dusk.
Most of the interior is there just the seats are worn out and ripped, Mainly the driver’s side along with it being very dirty inside.

I popped the hood once more to see more and try to tell why it was over heated and the black smoke. Realizing it had a bad head gasket along with leaking lots of oil leaking.
With this I decided I should Search deeper into the issues my new Project will be having,
I made another walk around noticing a few roof rust spots. Popping my hatch open to see the hinges being rusty and what really deeply bothered me… (pictures 33-40)

After seeing what seemed to be metal crunched up… I closed my hatch to see how well a lined it was and what I could learn from this. As what seems as if it was rear ended, and damaged on the driver side quarter panel. since I can’t do nothing myself about it I left it at that & called it a day.
The next progress I decided to make is cleaning her up a bit. This meant removing interior panels and the dashboard to clean off all the nasty gunk over the years…also to check how bad the wiring was and removing an alarm it had which I couldn’t use.
I had abounded her for a little while hidden under a car cover. Doing some research as to how I can fix the engine problems she had along with deciding if I should rebuild the engine if the means where necessary or just swap it out..
A few weeks later almost 2 months, I found another dirty gem that needed some TLC and I had to have it… a nice little Si-R swap B16A ready to drop in for a price of 1k firm.
After that being said it was time for another road trip, To go buy this swap.
We had no other option but to mount her into The Dx hatch. Yes the little hatch that could!

Day 2: second day of the B16A swap.
I ran into a few issues being that the shift linkage was abit short.
I was told it was OEM but seemed after it was a welded one from a DA Integra (89’-93’) but it will have to do until I find a better one.
Along with that issue the axles didn’t fit properly…
Turned out they sold me a B-series passenger Axle & a D-series passenger Axle…
boy was this **** off.
I ended up getting new ones and they fit right in!

Day 3: finishing the swap.
I didn’t get an engine harness for the swap. But I did find out that the MPFI OBD0 D-series engine harness should work, and luckily it did!
One other thing I forgot to install the exhaust manifold (headers) they wouldn’t fit in at an angel.
So I saw if I removed the re-enforcement bar it will slide in and fit…only after half way there…
I remembered…
there 2 piece headers!! Boy was that a set back and waste of time.

Day 4: By then all I needed was an ECU. Found a guy selling me a PWO ECU for 40$ only a few miles away… I still don’t know much of this ECU but I think I hit jackpot
! Soon as I plugged it in and corrected a few grounds she started!
(thanks to a member of H-T who went out of his way to help me find my grounds.)
