Default Here is a quiz question: 97 vs. 98 H22A4 intermediate "aka half" shaft.......

So we're almost finished with a soon-to-be-badass-boosted-built-H22-into-1990Accord-swap......bbbuuuuuttttt.........
It's an A4 block with everything else A1 (intake manifold/head).....well, the intermediate shafts from the A1 preludes are the same as the accords, but since it's an A4 block, we need the intermediate shaft from an A4 since the bolt patterns are different....
Now for the question:
I'm not sure what year our A4 block is, but on http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com there are different part numbers listed for the intermediate shafts on a 1997 prelude versus a 98+ prelude....does anyone know what the difference is????
Thanks a TON!!!
Brian

OK. So that is the same setup as I have. I run a 96 H23a1 Tranny with a 93 H22A1 Intermediate shaft on my F22b2. I use a 92-96 Prelude VTEC/Si driver side axle and 94-97 Accord Passenger side axle.

The accord intermediate shaft is Male ended into the tranny and Female ended for the axle.

***********EDIT: SCRATCH THAT. They do not change out***************

first question: do you know if your a4 block is from a base prelude or a sh?

second: does the block have 2 holes behind it for the int. shaft?

if it is an sh block you will not find an int. shaft that will bolt up to it. you will have to custom fab an int. shaft to work with it like i had to. trust me, it took me 3 months for me to figure this out.

can you imagine, i had my built h22 in my 95 accord, turbo kit on everything ready to go, just need to bolt up the axles and i couldn't do it for 3 months. finally got a custom and was on the road running.

The different part #'s might also exist because of a different manu that made the parts. This is true for alot of cars and parts on hondaautomotiveparts.com. the same peice (pistons for a 90 accord for example) can have two different #'s depending on who made them for honda. This might be the difference

I'm pretty sure it's from a base prelude, as I don't believe the A1 trannies bolt up to the SH block? but I might be wrong.....
Yes, it has 2 holes instead of 3 for the intermediate shaft......
And that might be true about the part numbers too, because I don't see how the same block can have different intermediate shafts
Thanks guys, keep the comments and answers coming!

since you said that it does have two holes on the back of the block, then it is not a base prelude block. it is the sh version. the two holes where there to bolt up the atts unit for the sport shift tranny that the sh prelude uses.

also the h22a1 tranny can and will bolt up to a h22a4 block, if it can't i wouldn't be driving my car now. you will have to custom make a intm. shaft to work. holla back at me if u got any questions. greengangsta@hotmail.com

Crap. This swap just turned into a huge pain in the *** then, eh?
How did you make your custom intermediate shaft? Did you just replace the mount on your old shaft with a custom one that matches up to the sh block? Is it possible that the people that made your shaft can just make us a copy of it and we can pay you/them for it? I'll email you later about it, and thanks for the help!

Well, one suggestion re: the intermediate shafts, maybe you could get a engineer or machinist look at what you are trying to do. I have a friend that is an engineer, and has access to a machine shop, and its amazing the kind of idea's he can come up with if you ask him for a solution to a problem. He even makes custom stuff for his racecar, so if they also race, thats a plus.
