Ok guys
So my 96 civic i bought came with generic wheels.
And i out new tires on ot since the old one were bad and shook the wheel at 50mph.
So i ended up getting a new set of tires.

Now it still shakes but at 65mph. So i decided to give road force balacing a shot to see
If i had a bent rim or something.

So the tech takes a wheel off puts it on the machine. Reading come out it off by 0.75
And 34lbs of force. So i decided for the tech not to do the other 3. Cuz he said this wheel alone is enough to cause a shimmy

But anyways he recommended i go with a lighter set up. Wheels and tires.

So my question is..
Why did he say to get different tires and wheels?
And will this happen if i just replace the wheels?

Oh the weird part was when he balaced it to 0..he spun it again and it was off balance. And said the rim seemed fine.

Any other info on this would be great.

 

You dont need to go lighter. For a while I was driving on 17's that the rims were 23 Ibs a rim.

 

If it's off by .75, use a .75 wheel weight to correct it. That's tire balancing 101. They're never perfect, that's what wheel weights are there for.

 

Thats the thing. It was off by .75 then the tire guy replaces it. Back to 0 then goes for a test spin then its back to being unbalanced seconds after replacing the weight.
Oh and forgot to mention he tried both sticky and clip ons.

 

Mass in a wheel or tire doesn't just magically move. Either his machine is calibrated incorrectly, your wheel is bent, or he is a completely incompetent tech. Since his solution was to "buy lighter wheels", I'm leaning towards options A and C.
