Electrical Expert Needed - 05 CRV
Hi, new user here so I am limited. I need an electrical expert. I have an 05 CRV EX, AT. I was replacing a reverse light socket and I did not have the the power off...key was turned ahead. Big mistake! Anyhow, I cut the wires and replaced the socket only to realize that it did not work. Then I realized that the instrument cluster is totally dead and the intermittent wipers don't work. So I am hoping its just a fuse or relay blown somewhere??? But where is it? I've checked the obvious fuses and relays under the hood and dash but that's not to say that it can't still be one on them because the diagram on the panel cover does not show what all of them are for. Please if someone knows where this fuse or relay that controls the reverse light, the instrument cluster and the intermittent wipers is to, I would appreciate it. Desperately need your help and I cant afford to take it to the dealer to be fixed.
I'm sorry I can't be of much help and judging by the year and model, this may be a dumb question, but are all fuses the correct amperage? I bought a civic and some were too big. I ended up blowing part of the circuit in the fuse box behind the dash instead of just the fuse. I replaced the box and everything worked. It's rather unlikely but to check, remove each fuse and look for anything burnt underneath the fuses. It was hard to see on mine. Maybe it won't show anything and you'd just have to use a meter to test. I'm not knowledgeable enough to really say. This does seem to be a fairly common problem though. Not that common, but I've seen a few people here with it.
Safest thing for you is to get a Manual from Autozone, or pay online. They have wiring diagrams. That way you can see where you could have shorted it out. Thats my guess. But thats what fuses and such are for. When you say checked, you looked at all of them to see if any were popped? I suggest using a test light. You connect the clamp to body ground (door latch, battery ground or even a section of the inside of the door. Touch BOTH sides of the top of the fuses. Looking at fuses you see the tops of them, there are 2 metal contacts PER fuse. Touch each one. If you have the LIGHT come on while testing one side of the fuse and not the other, then its blown. Obviously there are more tests, but knowing the wiring is key.
Good luck
