a6 and z6 and basically the same bottom end, they are the best d series bottoms. if you do a mini-me, (a6 bottom with z6 head), you will have to make sure you do everything correctly and get the timing dead on.

Or just find a full z6 swap and drop it in.

If you cant time a Sohc correctly you shouldn't be working on cars.

well when u sway a z6 head on an a6, you have to have the right cam gearor the right adj one. I had 2 diff adj ones for mine, 1 I had to have the gear at 4.75* for the belt to go on, the other it would go on with it set at 0*

^Mini-me = 1.5 non VTEC block + Z6/Y8 VTEC head, all else is really just a VTEC conversion. Just saying that there is a difference to avoid confusion...which is where this is going.

Having said that, timing becomes an issue in two scenarios:

A) when you use a 1.5 block because of the difference in deck height.
B) somehow you have a newer camgear on the older camshaft or vice versa because they are clocked a half tooth different (4.75 degrees? I don't recall off the top of my head)

The coincidence is that when using a 1.5 block it results in being a half tooth off so the simple solution is to use the newer Y8 camgear if using a Z6 head or the older A6/Z6/B7/B8/B2 etc camgear if using a Y8 head (yes ALL 88-95 use the same PM3B camgear).

I'm not sure, there is so many diff options on cam gears and timing. I gave up on mine atm, my compression is wayyy bad. So i'm finishing up my GSR in my ek and will mess with the sohc later.
