Valve Opening Issue F22B1
So I got a new head (f22b1) to put on my 97 cl and after i put the cam gear and everything else on it I did a valve adjustment and I'm just confused as to what I'm seeing when I turn the cam by hand.
Some of the valves aren't opening and some are opening one at a time. Also there is a loud click every time I rotate the cam 90 degrees. Is this normal because that's not how I understood an engine to work...the head is off the car and not connected to the block if that makes any difference? Take a look at the video and let me know if I did something wrong, its fine, or the head itself is messed up. Thanks and i appreciate the time!

That's how the F22B1 VTEC system works. When the cam is working of the primary lobes only one intake valve per cylinder will be opening fully. The other valve only opens enough to keep fuel from pooling behind it. In order to have both intake valves open the rockers have to be locked into the secondary position aka VTEC engaged.

Yeah the F22B1 actually has three intake cam lobe profiles. The primary and secondary lobes are the two lower lift non VTEC lobes. With the secondary lobe being the lower lift of the two. Then there is the mid lobe, which is the higher lift VTEC lobe.
Well any time you have a gap between two metal surfaces that are forced together there will be some clicking noise as they contact each other. Now with that being said they shouldn't be overly loud with the engine running.
Yes you will hear a bit of a click. To be honest with you, most times the injectors opening and closing will make more noise than the valves would, with proper clearances.

Sorry I didn't watch your video until just now.... That does not sound normal, however I need to see what the rocker assembly is doing while you are rotating the cam. Hard to tell what is going on while looking at the combustion chamber side. Watching the valve train would more than likely tell you what is going on.
So heres a video with the valve train side. It seems like the noise is made whenever the valves close after the cam lobe moves away. If its still hard to tell let me know and ill try to make a better one.
After watching the videos again. I noticed that the sound is caused when the exhaust valves slam shut against the seats. You can see that when you get over the peak of the exhaust lobe the valve springs force the cam around and slam the exhaust valves shut. If the belt was on there to maintain strain against the cam gear and valve springs. They wouldn't slam shut like that.

You should be good to go with that head as long as all of your valve clearances checked out!

Yeah ill triple check em after i torque the head down. And i definitely will! Thanks so much for all your help! I got my problem solved and learned something new haha.
