odd question about baby in a 91 si
Well I am looking for a DD and originally i was looking for an ek but an offer came up for a super clean EF its a 1991 si. Are there any issues or safety concerns with using a baby car seat in the back of one of these? It just uses the seatbelt to hold it in but I figured I would ask before buying it maybe someone had some experience.
I too have been hit in a CRX... and an EF. And it wasn't good at all. I'd maybe do it, if you could put the kid in the middle. Otherwise I wouldn't put my child in one.

I've had baby seats in the back of my hatchback, it's kind of a pain putting them back
there just because it's a 2dr. I always like to avoid accidents thats why I drive a car that
can stop and handle well.

These cars are tuna cans! For the safety of your child DO NOT put them in a old school hatchback. Not enough metal in these cars to run the risk of transporting your child. I personally wouldn't do it, hell they don't even have airbags to save your own face..lol.
Something to look at.
PS: what a waste of an SI.
At least the EG has airbags, BUT you still get mangled.
These cars are fun as weekend toys to play with, but transporting your family around in them is too damn risky. Especially when you consider everything else out there on the road heavier than these cars, all of that energy/weight is going to be transferred into you during impact.

I bring my kids around in it. It was our primary car before kids and up to when we had two. Now that we have three my wife drives a mini-van and I DD the EF. But I have fit all three kids (2 boosters, 1 Radian Narrow Seat) in the back of the hatch back about a dozen or so times.
It really sucks that our "Compact" cars are considered "average sized cars" in Europe. And with all these SUV's around it sucks that we can be labeled as an irresponsible parents by because of driving such a little car.

i would say drive smart. avoid heavy traffic, spend a few extra quid and get a recaro baby seat. air bags may save lives, but from research i've done the first generation honda air bags took just as many lives as they saved. regardless of what year if you're in a tiny car and you get in an accident with a larger one you're screwed
And yes, it is somewhat irresponsible to put three kids in the back of a 88-91 hatch.

Get a 1990 prelude si. I was rear ended by a 1987 supra doing 45. The car weighs over 4000lbs. Walked away sore, but fine. Insurance said that it could have been worse if my car was a new car.
Wow I forgot to check back in on this. Thanks for the responses. I ended up getting a 1999 ek and passed on the 91 from all these responses. Its for my daily and if for some reason we decide thats not safe enough then I can always drive the 07 si sedan when I am bringing my son out with me.
And we do have what was rated as one of the best car seats on the market. Its funny how life changes and priorities move with cars as I get older.

Drive carefully? That's why I drive a car with good brakes? Lol none of this is going to help you when the dodge ram runs a redlight or rear ends you....
I think when you're out with your son, you should just stick to using the '07 sedan. When he's older you can take him out in the EK!
It's not the size of the car...it's the standards in which it was built. A compact car designed in 1987 isn't going to be nearly as safe as the same sized compact car designed in 2013.

So how would that matter if you're sitting at a stoplight behond someone and the dude behind you is texting in his SUV and doesn't see the red light and fails to stop? A BBK and ground controls aren't going to matter when you get pancaked.

You do realized every car is unsafe and that you can die in any car in an accident...right? Yeah the Civic/CRX was build during a time when safety laws were less stringent, but that doesn't make it unsafe. Some of these comments are just, wow.

same with the third generation Accords, when I started doing all the body work to mine, I was surprised at how how much of a thicker gauge steel they use in comparison to the civic models of the same era, the civic/crx models of the same era are tin cans, and I use to own a bunch of them. I remember seeing a crash test of an 81 where it said the driver had a much higher chance of death then the passenger
