B18c rebuild?
Provided the Cylinders & Pistons check out, REPLACE:
- rod bearings ($10ea x8)
- main bearings ($10ea x10)
- thrust bearings ($11)
- piston rings (must hone cylinders 1st) ($30ea x4)
- all gaskets & o-rings (~$120)
- water pump ($85)
- timing belt ($40)
- tensioner bearing ($65)
- thermostat ($18)
- crank seals f&r ($21)
- cam seals f&r ($19)
- valve stem seals ($18)
Reuse:
- everything else?
Roughly $700 in parts (OEM online pricing) plus the cost of a simple re-hone.
If you need new pistons ($200), consider an expensive hone job.....or a bore & hone w/ oversized pistons if the cylinders are screwy. I have no idea how much that costs.

oil pump is something I would never re-use imo. USDM R-spec oil pump is $130 plus the lower timing cover would have to be replaced with the domestic style cover since you have a JDM motor AND THEY ARE DIFFERENT. another $60. or the genuine JDM oil pump is around $200. NO DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE.

Just to add to this list... ARP bolts in everything you can put them in. And if you reuse the connecting rod's have them checked by your machinest, and machined if needed. Good luck with your build.

If the bearings look great, I have no issue with reusing them. Same with the oil pump, many times people are quick to discard these items with no wear! These will not fail if they are simply "old". In my opinion the key elements in a b18c rebuild are the following:
- Pistons and rings with OE .25mm oversize
- Cylinder head! This is usually overlooked! I'm not an advocate of reusing 13-18 year old valve springs. Exhaust valves at a minimum should be replaced. Valve guides are usually ok but some shops do more harm than good by replacing them.
- Obviously seals, gaskets, timing belt etc should be replaced. Thermostat is important too. Oem parts are high quality and aftermarket stuff should be avoided in this department.

really makes sense though. honda wouldn't likely design a whole new part and only did so with obd2 for the cfs

There are only two designs of b series oil pump. Just to end that debate. There's the obd1 and obd2. Most people talk about having a type r oil pump, but in all actuality they have only upgraded to an obd2 pump.
all we were curious about is if the jdm pumps are nothing more than an obd1 pump. you would think they would be but i never checked one when i was into these cars
this is true. didn't know it and asked some questions and it is verified. my b16b had the obd1 style and it was switched to the later one at rebuild time. new timing cover eats up the cost savings of switching to the obd2. about $200 for the obd1 and $130obd2+$60 for new cover. always thought there was a difference with a type r pump and a standard vtec pump. oops.
