Default Turd's 98' CR-V Build. STD free!

Hey guys,

New here to the forums. Recently picked up a CR-V. It is an "AWD" 98' ex. Traded my friend for my subaru gf8. Here is a quick history of my cars in chronological order.

So as you can tell... i keep getting bigger cars. Got out of drifting due to college. The subaru got me through that. It never gave me a single issue. I just got bored and wanted something different. Originally i was looking for a 3rd gen 4runner to trade for. I gave up and settled for a cr-v my friend was trying to get rid of. So as of last week I am a 1st gen CR-V owner.

About the car:

160,000 miles
5-speed
some kind of cheap intake
cheap bright green struts
decent sound system
yakima roof rack

So i said... why not.

So begins the build

Started off simple..

Wheels

Size: 121.0 KB

I picked up the set of 4 wheels with tires for $150 off of an uncle. Not bad. Tire and wheel size were EXACTLY what i was looking for. 30x9.5 mounted on some chunti styled steel wheels.

Size: 146.5 KB

Sprayed the wheels black. It's ghetto and cheap, but i was not diggin' the chrome rusted look. Makes me feel more poor than i already am.

test fit. Mind you this is stock suspension

I was MISERABLE. Everything rubbed like hell..cause hell is a "rubby" place. So i took the wheels off again to hammer and trim a bunch of crap off

Finally... i was done. First thing i did was drive to the gas station to put air in the tires. The wheels were off of a jeep that was used for wheelin.

I ordered some very ricer/tuner "coilover" sleeves for a civic. My plan is to lift my CR-V by installing some f12/r14 inch coilover springs. I plan for somewhere between a 2-3 inch lift. After that.. i'm not sure. Maybe i'll turbo it.. since it seems like it's the cool thing to do.

Looks alright. Just need to lift it a little to get that wheel gap back. The S14 looks clean.

Hi.

I only used spacers in the front to clear the calipers. They were small slip on spacers.

So, after driving my dingus on some trails i realized that even after i lift it under heavy load it'll probably rub and make me feel like a stupid. So while i source everything together i figured i'd ruin the **** out of this car at cut it up forever ruining it.

Used a dremel to cut the fender. Not the fastest way, but it was slow and .. well, i wouldn't say precise.

Then my friend at "night shift" helped me out by grinding it smooth-like.

I ended up ordering F12-550 R12-500. I absolutely would recommend getting 10in springs for the front if you go this route. The 12in springs needed to be compressed a butt load just to get the strut together. This left me with a TON of preload, thus making my crv feel like poo. Very bouncy and little to no articulation. I ended up cutting the springs down to 10 inches. From there i'll spin the sleeves up to lift the front 1-1.5 inches higher, and the rear an inch higher. I'm happy to note that my rear does not rub at all, nor does my front. Even when i jump this thing lol.

ap1jnky- The rear tire was rubbing the fender. I ended up not cutting off the piece like i did to the front. I'm not going to do that after all. I want to put the black oem trim back on and cut that to the shape of how the metal is bent, then flow that into the rear bumper. That should give me more than enough clearance.

Sticker Bomb- I like the reverse rake

squeaks - i get 22-23 now... highway :/

77777- they feel fine i suppose. I've never felt the oem struts, these were on the car when i got them. And yes, they do look neat. haha
