VTEC wiring/ecu
I am new here so if this post is in the wrong place I'm sorry. I have a 97 civic HX that had a D16y5 with VTEC and It blowed so I put a JDM D15B with a 3 stage VTEC ( dual VTEC silinoids) the new VTEC has 2 wires ( red one and a green one) but my harness only has a green one. I hooked green to green and left the red one unhooked but now my CEL is on for VTEC malfunction. Do I need to swap Ecu or harness or how can I get this to work?
there is no such thing as vtec stages, the solenoid is either open or closed. Having more, a bigger opening for the oil or anything is pointless. Understand vtec. It locks in another set of rockers for a bigger-longer valve duration to give more power. There Is no way to alternate it besides getting a bigger cam.
Fliptard this is for you... There is a 3 stage VTEC http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine
hm, interesting. Learn something new everyday.
It's more for fuel economy that "vtec" but sure.
But yes, you are going to need the ecu for that motor. which is P2J, and a man or auto depending on which drivetrain you have. Or it won't run correctly.

Also my engine harness has just a green wire since it had a single VTEC silenoid, which harness had the red wire and the green wire to hook up the VTEC? And would I need a jumper harness to connect the Ecu?

You aren't being specific about the check engine code but I'm sure I know what it is.
You didn't wire in the vtec oil pressure switch thats why you have the check engine light. JDM motors don't have vtec oil pressure sensor so you need to wire it in along with the vtec wire. Yes the motor won't run the actual vtec, it does have regular vtec at around 5k, but with the hx p2m ecu you should be fine as long as you don't go past 5k.
