Default 1994 Accord Timing Belt Noise

Hello;
Have been working on my and my families Accords for about 15 years and have lurked this site and received a tremendous amount of assistance - thanks very much for the help, and I am sure you are helping countless others.

My question: I have recently replaced a headgasket and timing belt set on a 1994 Accord Ex VTEC engine. Everything is fine except for some low level noise from the timing belt which I believe is commonly attributed to the timing belt being too tight.

Is there a way to "cheat" the tension adjustment and readjust the cam timing belt without taking off the lower front cover? I have been through the Chiltons, and am not sure that it is possible, but thought I would ask on the board to see if there are any ways that the more experienced mechanics may have found to successfully do this and readjust the tension without dismantling the front cover. If I have to do it, I will, but am hopeful for a shortcut.

Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

Sincerely;

John

You can cheat by TDC'ing the engine then removing the upper timing cover and pop t-belt off the cam pulley and get things lined up and re-install. Just make sure the crank pulley is still lined up with the mark on the lower cover when re-installing the belt. Did this multiple times.

If you're just re-adjusting the timing mark to make the noise go away, you can just adjust the t-belt tension by removing the upper cover then turn the engine over three teeth counter-clockwise, loosen and tighten the adjusting nut. This will properly adjust then belt and the whirring noise should go away. Did this on my old F22B1 and current H22A. Works wonder! Good Luck.
