OK so I have a problem with my LOCK CYLINDER on 1990 HONDA ACCORD EX 4 DOOR AUTOMATIC so it gets stuck in the start position and locks up at random times through-out turning the key so my question is I am basically looking to remove the lock cylinder itself as far as I know there is a pin holding it in the cylinder itself but I can't get to that pin I need help on finding how to remove the lock cylinder by that pin or am I wrong is there a different process? I have found a lot about this on 94-2000 accords but nothing on 90-93 any help would greatly be appreciated thank you.

 

after buying a new lock cylinder take it out and put the key inside of it and turn it until you can push the pin in...this will give you an idea where the key needs to be positioned to get the pin to go down when you push it

put the old key in the old lock cylinder and turn it to that exact spot...using a paperclip push the pin in on the old lock cylinder...pull key out

 

OK thank you for your help but now I am having a issue inserting it now that I got the cylinder lock out having problems getting it in.

 

Also that security screw I wound up having to drill it out because it wouldn't budge but I am still having issues inserting the new cylinder even though I can use a key or screw-driver to start it I would still like to get the cylinder back in anyone who can help please do.

 

obviously in order to put it in you need to make sure it's in the correct position so that it will open up and allow it to go in...you will need to put the new key in and turn it i think to the 1 position

i'm not sure what you drilled but you shouldn't have needed to drill anything..if you did you did something wrong and I really hope you didn't drill the new lock cylinder...if so you need a new one again

LOL IKR what I drilled is the security screw basically the thing that stops criminals from just ripping the ignition out I did a clean job though I didn't drill the new or old cylinder itself but here's the issue i'm having now the new cylinder that I put it everything seems to work fine but it won't go back any further then 1 position it just won't go back at all so if anyone has any other ideas please do suggest them here thank you again. Also everything seems/looks fine but it could potentially be the cylinder itself the new one that is that I got off of EBAY possibly going to try ordering a new ignition cylinder straight from HONDA and see if that works but gonna see if I can get this one to work properly first.

 

Just buy another from a parts store that allows for a return if you don't use it and compare that one mechanically with the key in it with the one you bought off ebay.

 

Being an automatic make sure that the interlock mechnism is working. If it does not register that the gear selector is in PARK you will not be able to rotate the key all the way back to the 'locked' position to pull your key out.
