Picture attached below. Next to the rocker arm spring you can see in the picture that it looks broken and need to buy another one, anyone know what it called and where can I get it?

BTW, have no idea how it broke took it all part to do my heads then saw it like that.

Do you think it'll run better with the timing plate replaced? I do remember hearing some weird sound while back, must have been cause of this.

 

Crapshot theory. When the switchover occurs that spring plate probably helps stabilize the now 'free' rocker arm.

 

Those timing plates realese the timing pistons inside the rockers to allow the synchronizing pistons to engage and disengage VTEC. They lift and drop to ether release or lock the pistons inside the rockers. Without that tab that cylinder may have been a bit out of time to engage or disengage VTEC.

I have a unrelated question, do I need teflon on any of my new head bolts?

 

No Teflon required.

Apply a bit of clean engine oil to the threads and use the proper 3 step tq sequence and you're good to go.

29 ft/lbs
51 ft/lbs
72 ft/lbs

All i need now is the, cam holder torque sequence (f22b1).

I know the cam holder torque spec is this.
8mm bolts = 16lbs-ft
6mm bolts = 9lbs-ft

Here is the sequence for the F22B1;

Dist end ---------- Timing belt end

3 -- 7 -- 11 -- 13 --- 9 -- 5 -- 1

4 -- 8 -- 12 -- 14 -- 10 -- 6 -- 2

It uses the standard crisscross pattern.

 

Bad news! While I was torquing 9ft/lbs on the smaller cam holder bolts, it snapped.

Must have been cause those bolts are old. The threads on the heads look fine so I'm gonna get some new 6mm thread bolts tomorrow.

 

Be sure you have the valve lash adjusters all the way loose.

 

If I loosen all the rocker arm valve lash adjusters, what do I set the gap back to?

 

Set them back to Spec? Should be on the sticker under the hood. If it is gone I can look it up.

Trying to put the rocker back on without backing off the adjusters.....you are fighting the valve spring as one or more of the rockers will be trying to push down on the valve stem.

 

All 4 of my timing plates cracked. Is it because of my wrong screwing sequence ?
