Default Total noob. and yes I'm a girl.

Hey yall, new to this thing... just got a 97 Prelude vtec 2.2l 179k. She's not perfect cosmetically but hey for a 97 she's in pretty good shape. To be honest I don't know **** about cars. I can change all fluids, air filters, spark plugs/plug wires and replace brake pads. But that's about it. So I'm here to learn all that I can. Probably gonna get flipped **** cuz I'm a girl but whatever, I just want to know more about my car...

The worst thing you have ever just done, and completely condemned yourself on this site is letting people know you are a girl.

prepare for internet rape / harrassment to the max.

since you know fluids, plugs etc you are 5 steps ahead of most honda owners.

keep it up with the basic standard maintenance, and it should last long. then eventually over time replace old stuff, like the fuel pump, fuel injectors, gaskets, O-rings, etc. full refresh.

Checked the timing? Valve adjustment? Large maintenance (tbelt/water pump)? Welcome, don't know how long you'll last as last poster said.

Don't listen to these guys, I've seen girls that own cars that can walk around me mentally and physically car wise. You'll do just fine here, research is your friend! Welcome to H-T.

Awesome car choice! A lot of people underestimate that car because of its weight. I had an 01' Prelude SH and loved it every moment. Welcome, I am new to here as well, but for different reasons. I was a Porsche technician and have the understanding of how to work on cars.

I'm here for the aftermarket side of this site. To see what the best combinations are from those that paid the price or reaped the benefits.

Nevertheless, welcome fellow newcomer!

Timing belt was just replaced. However I do need to get the timing checked since my CEL came on and it gave out p0301. I just replaced spark plugs and plug wires 2 days ago so I know its not those.

fafaylon, you are complaining about a misfire though right? not a transmission shifting issue? The two are unrelated. Your misfire could be a number of things. But the most BASIC rule to follow is to keep it simple. Don't assume a sensor to CPU failure..(Not saying you are, just giving an example) It could be that the wire to the spark plug isn't seated... I can help more, but don't want to step on toes.

I don't know anything more than what my car will tell me. It's running fine, same as it was before CEL came on. Tell me all you can, obviously I'm here to learn lol

Ya and I was just trying to clarify. Was just trying to see what the issue was a little more. But based on that code, it states its a Cylinder 1 misfire. So if the car is not "shuttering" at idle or feels like you lost a lot of power under acceleration(load on the car). I would suggest clearing the code and watch to see if it comes back. You may need to "rent" a code reader from Autozone to clear the code. Otherwise, you could buy one for like $100 or even less, just to pull and erase codes.

oh another thing. if the check engine light is blinking when idling or driving, turn the car off. That means you can be damaging the cat. TOO much raw unburnt fuel will kill your cat.

I would do a compression test on all cylinders first.

Auto zone will check codes for free came back on after I reset it again, 1&2 misfiring. Gonna check the cap and rotor and see if they're bad. If its not that then idk what to do after that

fafaylon, any update? still misfiring? A misfire would make the car shutter pretty bad and having 2 is just crazy. So if you dont even notice then this is strange. What you can do is while its running, pull a plug off a spark plug on at a time. So if it does idle okay, pull number 1 watch and listen for the stumble. If NO CHANGE then you ARE MISFIRING. Then plug it back in. Then proceed to number 2 and repeat. If you unplug too many the car would probably stall.

This is just to prove the misfire or not and for you to see how YOUR car acts when running under just 3 cylinders.
