Long cranks to start car?
I have a 97 civic hatch stock
with 153,xxx miles.
When the car sits all night and after a few hours it really takes it a little while for it to start.
13 seconds of cranking.
what could this be?
need new spark plugs?

yooo, just in case his info wasn't enough, I'm gonna keep this thing going just a lil longer.
distributor, plug wires, plugs, rings, fuel pump, fuses, relays and probably a whole bunch of other possibilities I'm not smart enough to suggest. sorry

Re: Long cranks to start car?
I had the same problem when i got my 92 hatchback, i put new cap, rotor, Ngk wires and fuel filter and it fixed it completely. Mine had irridium plugs in it so i didnt replace em, but would prob help also. so try replacing that stuff and it will help alot and get u better gas mileage. after replacing these parts on my car it ran a whole lot better and went from 38 mpg hwy to 46!!

Do you guys use any special types of plugs?
I changed my plugs a month ago, the parts store told me to gap them at .44.
I checked the plugs coming out, they were all past 1 and heavily corroded.
The strange thing was, my car started any time, at the drop of a hat. I've never had a starting problem.
Now these brand new plugs, It seems to be hard starting. I have to crank, stop, crank then it will catch on the second attempt. I don't get it.

Re: Long cranks to start car?
Seems like there is a leak in a the fuel injector(s) that is flooding your spark plugs slowly overnight.
EDIT - Or like what the others have said, worn spark plugs/ignition components.
