Default 1996 Honda Accord

I have a 96 honda accord. Today it 'surged' about 3 times and died. The dashboard doesnt work, gas hand, speedo an tach, heat gauge - nothing. Also the car will not come out of park without using the ignition bypass (insert a key, mash it down, and pull the gear shift back) the clock doesnt work either. I can deal with the dash not working, however it does need to run haha. Im wondering if its the fuel pump relay? We couldnt hear the fuel pump but it was on a busy highway and if its the relay im not sure the pump would work. Any ideas or helpnwould be welcome.
Right now i cant afford a new car so fixing this 1 is my only option

might have a fuse blown there is a fuse that controls all that mine blew and thats what happend. as for your fuel pump, make sure you have power going to it there is a relay for it under the dash if its stock it should say main assy or something like that make sure it clicks when you turn the key. if it dont try another relay their about 50$ new if that dont work try a used computer the thats what happend to mine

Well - the part about the gas gauge not working.... yeah apperantly that was the issue. When the car died it was pointed down hill, just slightly. Just enough that 1 gallon of gas was not enough to crank the car. Yep, i had ran out of gas and didnt realize it. I am not as big an idiot as that makes it seem - the gas gauge didnt work, i had put gas in it - when i did the pump stopped on its own and i incorrectly thought i had filled it up - turns out that has to have been a glitch (figured that out by how much was put in previously and how far i had driven) the truely sad part is it took a few days and my husband saying 'the damn thing isnt getting any gas' - that combined with us backing the car up just enough that it was tilted backwards, and it fired right up then sputtered all combined to turn the light bulb on. Thank you for replying and im sorry i didnt answer sooner - yesterday was busy and we've just gotten the car going.
As far as the reply, yes we had replaced that fuse previously and my husband had resoldered the fuel relay also - so we were extremly confused. On the pos side, the dash works now. It was that fuse, the 1 we put in was bad - not blown, bad. My speedometer still doesnt work but everything else does. Hubbybsays its either cracked solder or a loose connection.
Oh we did learn 1 thing in all this - that fuse needs to be a 15 amp instead of a 10 amp. We put 2 10 amp fuses in, 1 right after the other and they both blew. Since we put the 15 in its been fine....

if you're really mashing the lock cylinder that could actually be your issue as perhaps it's not staying in the on position
you can start with a new lock cylinder and see if that helps
