i thought there's only one ground on the thermostat housing?
then there's one by valve cover, and another of course for negative terminal of the battery, for a total of 3 ground wires

Ok..if you look closer to ground attached on the thermostat housing, normally there are 4 wires merged into one connection..i think 2 black and 2 brown.but what seems weird with my wiring..there are only 3 wires..two brown and one black..i want to know where exactly those wires go to which pin in the ecu..so that i can trace them and make correction.

G101 grounds much more than just the ECU.

In the 96-00 Civic service manual. Do a Google search. You'd be amazed what you'll find.

or was you trying to get a little more detailed wiring of the G101 ground? like you were saying the multiple wires?

Yes sir,,i am much more concerned with the g101.i want to know where they are located in the ecu plug?I have checked almost of all my friends b16/b18 engines, they all have 4 wires(g101),but mine have only 3 wires. And i am currently experiencing very poor throttle response, running rich,we changed all sensors, ecu, dizzy, everything.but problem persists. No cel on.

If you had a problem with a G101 ground wire to the ECU, the engine would NOT start or run and the CEL would remain on steady.

ECU, Vtec pressure switch, rad fan thermo switch are all grounded there. I can't remember what the 4th thing is.

On the fifth gen one black wire is strictly the Engine Coolant Temp Switch, the other black wire is split to the Heated O2 sensor, the VSS, pin 25 of the ECM and the Vtec pressure switch.

The other two wires go to a plethora of things.

I am not sure if it's the same design or pathways on the sixth gen.

For one thing, on the 5th gen, there is only 1 brown wire and it's brown/black, then a black/red then two plain blacks.

You probably might want to purchase the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual for your car from helm.inc it's not expensive and quite detailed on all the wiring.

Question about g101. Had a fan problem, so we tested some stuff and figured out the fan is fine, it runs with direct power off the battery. fuses and relays good. So yesterday I replaced the engine coolant temp switch and flushed the coolant. Also did spark plugs and wires while I was at it. I'm confident on the repairs. Problem is when I recranked it ran for a minute then idled down and died. Wont recrank unless I rev engine, dies when I let off the gas.
I think it's the thermostat ground wire. I loosened it to reposition when I replaced the switch. Never knew it would shut me down but I've read this is exactly what happens. So I've tried cleaning the terminal and the bolt and repositioning a bunch, can't get it to act right. It has the same 3 wire configuration, 2 browns on one lead and one black on the other lead. It ran fine prior to moving it, so i thinks its just being sensitive. Any thoughts?

You can try cleaning up the thermostat housing bolts, and bolt holes. Maybe there is enough corrosion there to prevent good conductivity to the rest of the motor as the housing itself is isolated by a rubber seal. It's likely most of the conductivity is through the housing bolts.

You probably put the wires on in the wrong order

If you have a multimeter you can check resistance from that g101 terminal to the batt negative and thatll tell you if you have a high resistance reading

Dont just guess at repairs

Well we weren't guessing but it made me think about the order of the wires. Went back and looked at the diagrams and rotated our pattern 90deg to the right...perfection!
Thanks guys

The guessing part of my post wasnt aimed at you.

It was aimed at people making blind suggestions

Good job on getting it going

I know this is an old post, but what order are the thermostat ground wires supposed to go in on the fifth gen?
