Default stripping things for weight

How much do the following generally weigh?

- Front Bumper Support/Impact
- Rear Bumper Support/Impact
- Side impact beams in the doors.

it is an 88 HF if you wanted to know. Already very light car but it's speed is based on weight, instead of adding more power i want to strip more weight. well...you know damn well i will add more power as well. Also if anyone else has any other suggestions for things to strip that would be great. I have already taken out the rear interior.

On the SI, I know the front and rear bumper beams weight 20lbs each. I've never weighed the door beams, but I don't think the 88's have them.

only 20lbs huh. hmmmm. still worth it to me . Off with their heads. I am thinking of taking out that really really heavy rear glass and putting in some lexan.

i say get rid of the windows for lexan (back 3) but leave in the bumper supports if your keeping it on the road, they may come in handy one day...if your making it an all out racecar, take out everything, this guy at n8 had a 1st gen crx completly stripped except for the guage cluster...car was hot...

i think the side impact beams are there for a good reason... if you drive the car regularly i would keep them there they could save your life

not worth it to me

perhaps that is a good idea, I have wrecked 3 cars in as many years. It is a strange strange thing too. All at almost the same day and all near the same amout of kilometers on the cars. oh sorry MILES.

have someone else drive your car around that bad time and bad mileage. tell them to put roughly 3000 miles, or 4800 kilometers (hope that's right, eh.) bingo. you are past the crash point, worry free. roll cage that sucker and do fiberglass doors and rear hatch. make the door section really crazy, to the point that you have to climb in the car from the hatch. nutso.

the glass is definitely heavy. have you ever changed the hatch supports? if so you'll feel how heavy the hatch is.

I have a spare hatch sitting in my basement. That thing is probably 100lbs. A nice fiberglass one and some lexan would probably save about 80lbs.

Have you guys ever worked with Lexan?

I used it a lot on my battlebots, in any sizes from 1/8" to 5/8" thick. It is sooooo soft. It is designed to be soft. It scratches with a fingernail. Unless this is an all race car, don't recommend using Lexan to replace your glass.

(PS: there is optical grade, abrasian resistant lexan, but it's hella expensive, espeically in big sizes)

There is one site that I've seen that sells fiberglass hatches for the CRX. You'd lose a lot of weight with this... Also, you can replace the battery with a drycell battery, they're like 10 lbs lighter - but fairly expensive. (can't remember the website I saw these at...sorry)

Also, another reason to keep the front & back bumpers is because they help stiffen up the chassis a bit. Keep those puppies on.

id take out bumper suports and side impact beams only if you have a very well designed cage. i dont even see how the side impact beems would work. 4th gens are soo small and thin. im deathly afraid of my car. taking out what ever saftey suports and **** it has from the factory would scare me even more.
i hit 1715 with bumper suports, impact beams, stock wheels, stock glass. stock hatch stock crossmember.

oh lexan does scratch very easily. there is a wax or a polish tht you can put on it regularly to prevent it. you can also buy it scratch resistnt. a thin layer or clear coat may even work to keep it scratch resistant.
