I believe that 3-stage VTEC for gas/emissions economy rather than performance.

spell check is your friend. Stay away from the 3 stage vtec motors they were made for economy. the motor your looking for is the SOHC vtec ZC. It is a 1.6 instead of a 1.5 and uses the same cam as the d15b. Ive owned both the d15b and the Sohc vtec ZC. go with the vtec zc. The cost difference is about 100-150 bucks, and after switching from the d15b to the ZC I picked up almost 20 whp and 3 tenths in the 1/4 mile. My setup was turbo so YMMV.

im going to contradict myself for a second and say i want the fuel economy over performance but i want to boost it. its a 1.5 and im not looking for big #'s. if i can get to 150hp from the original 128 ill be happy. i want it to stay an economy car. no spell check on this android phone and nowhere near enough ambition to ever care

the d15b with 3 stage vtec makes 92 horsepower. its not what you want. I could get 30 mpg with my vtec zc and my d15b driving it like i had a brain. They also both made over 200 whp @ 11psi. dont make the mistake of putting a 3 stage vtec motor in it.

i was just curious about the 3 but i was always leaning toward the regular vtec. i wouldnt want boost bending valves attempting to get passed 12 valves. im curious what you meant by an extra 20hp. i assume you meant a 20hp jump from 3 stage to zc bcz d15b says wiki has the same hp as zc except for z9. which has two more than both.

can you tell me about your d15b setup that made 200hp

I have a d15b in my 91 hf, and I honestly dont see the hype, would much rather have more displacement ESPECIALLY if you're going boosted as that will help spool. I'd do USDM z6 because cheap

is this a vtec or non vtec d15b? also are you using the stock hf parts, and transmission? that will make a HUGE difference in how the motor feels.

I picked up 20 whp going from the 2 stage d15b to the sohc vtec zc. Wiki is wrong about the sohc vtec zc. Its rated at 140 hp from the factory, up 12 from the 2 stage vtec d15b.
for my setup on both my d15b and sohc vtec ZC, I made my turbo manifold and used a nissan s13 sr20 t25 turbo, spearco FMIC, RC 450cc injectors, and hondata S200b, @12psi the d15b made 218whp and 186wtq, the sohc vtec zc made 236whp and 197 wtq.

he says right in the fs thread that mpg depends on driving techniques. Since your looking at a hypermiler forum Im guessing he is driving it like a chode.

OBD1 d15b JDM SOHC VTEC 130PS, I/H/E chipped, 89 civic si trans. 110% stripped (high 17xx lbs low 18xx lbs, without driver) Throwing a skunk2 IM to see if it helps any with the slow.

Keep in mind my daily driver is a bone stock 2011 WRX STi though, so maybe thats why it feels so slow?

For the record, best recorded mileage was 48mpg (average of 3 vehicles odometer used for distance traveled) on my setup when it still had a dash and passenger seat/belts. I was not trying for high MPG either, just a 55mph road for ~280miles and 65mph for ~120, likely averaging 5mph over. Normally gets around 40mpg mixed driving, mid to low 30s if i redline every gear til speed limits are reached

I have 2 pictures of the car, Boostedjeff has one, and the other is on my computer in the US.
I wouldnt cheap out on injectors, Rc's are already inexpensive
i have no idea what trim it is, its small, makes for a good street car.

Get a Z6 or a Y8 and call it a day. If you are staying D series that is the best there is.

No it isnt. both the d15B and the sohc zc have larger cams than the z6 and y8, and your going to pay about the same amount of money. Even though the z6 and y8 have, more than likely, triple the mileage.
