Default Is this turbo too big for b18b1

I have a b18b1 with stock internals. I'm in the process of putting together a turbo kit and my buddy gave me this turbo for free. Would I get a good amount of power from it or would it take to long to spool. Just planning on using it until I can get something better.

It should work. I know you got it free but some people say ebay turbos don't last long. You might find somebody with that turbo in the b18a/b turbo thread.

It certainly isn't an ideal turbo for your setup. Its too big and an eBay special...it may last, it may not. Since you got it for free, it might be worth using. Just remember that unless you upgrade to another 5-bolt turbine, you will need a new downpipe built (or at least a new flange put on).

I'm sure there is a good reason that he gave it to you for free. As Schister66 said, it's not ideal especially on a low revving stock LS motor.

I used one on my stock gsr block. Itr cams. Top mount. Made some pretty good power. 364whp @ 10psi. After about 3-4 months of using it, it pretty much started eating itself and blowing tiny shavings into the motor. Got a new turbo cuz it was under warranty () and another month or two and it spun a bearing.

The Damage.

You can't beat free...just be aware and cautious about it.

Exactly. And a GSR's cylinder head makes a world of difference in the behavior of the turbo. But a stock geo prism will outrun it for the first 1000 years or more if you put that on an LS..

Free is almost never really "free"

No free lunch, thanks ecomonics 101 lol

And that turbo is a crap shoot as far as durability, I've seen them fail on first startup or 100 miles down the road or a few never fail.

Personally I'd rather play craps (or even roulette or 5 shoe blackjack, single shoe is too easy lol) in Vegas before buying an eBay turbo (at least I can make my money back in Vegas)

You will always be paying for it sometime. Might not be now, just will be most likely down the road. I was just lucky that when that happened to me I had plans to ditch that motor and start with a whole new build, which is still featuring and ebay turbo.

Just kidding.
