I just use a wire brush or my dremel to clean out the corrosion on my batteries.

yes this is true. after you do that wipe away the excess w/ a old rag , the corrosion may eat the rag some. also it would be good to get a post and terminal cleaner which is basically a wire brush that you can put over the post and turn. you want a good shiny contact area on the post and the terminal.

grab a squirt bottle and fill it with water. add some baking soda and shake. squirt on the terminals. let the stuff do it's work and then rinse off the crap with regular water. done

just pour it straight out of the can on there, not alot of course. you just need to nuetralize the acid w/a base so you can wipe it off in a non corrosive state the baking soda works perfect also. don't take the battery out. i'm not sure how to stop it ? i just periodically clean mine when i'm working on the car.
