Wanting to Install 2000 OEM keyless into a 1996 DX
I am wanting to install the OEM system from a 2000 Civic EX into my 1996 DX. My first question is can this be done easily? I have the box that is located in the drivers kick panel and have noticed that the plug goes into the main harness, which I also have. Where does this plug actually go? Does it go to the fuse box? I do not want to change the main harness out, and at this time I do not want to cut up the main harness. Can someone give me some input on this please? Does it go straight to the fuse box? The easiest and best looking way possible is what I am wanting to do and taking out the dash is fine. Thanks for all the help in advance.
what is so essential about having 99-00 Keyless entry? All you needed was the radio and the keyless entry module/fobs to make it work.
If you are referring to homework as searching, you are wrong. I have searched numerous websites including this one and have found nothing on what I am trying to do. Thanks for the post though, I appreciate your help.
if you're going through all that trouble, why not just get an aftermarket alarm, door lock modules and actuators? I never understand why people would make something simple into a weekend project by trying to add "factory" keyless setups into their manual (non-powered) option cars.

My car is all power, with all oem power parts. I prefer to have a oem keyless on my keychain instead of a big gaudy ugly aftermarket one... oem is clean and I like that.
I dont see what the type of dash has to do with the radio? Last time I checked, all radios (single DIN) were the same size.
DId you change the harness in the dash as well? becaus that would require changing the entire car harness.

I thought in the 96-98 you could mount the OEM headunit remotely because the system was in, or mounted to, the headunit itself. If that's true don't make it hard on yourself. People have said they just stuff it behind the console. You'll need the proper adapter. $12-$15.
I would do that grumblemarc but I dont have a 96-98 dash in my car, I have the 99-00 dash. The plugs for the radio are different.
I didn't say anything about mounting it the DIN opening. I said the unit get stuffed somewhere BEHIND the console operating at the same time as your headunit. It takes a three headed adapter.
What will I hook the 96-98 radio into? There is not a plug for it because the dash and the dash harness are for a 1999 which the plugs for the radio are different.
I guess my title is misleading... My car is a 97... my MAIN harness is 97... my dash is a 2000... My Climate control is a 2000, My radio is a 2000, my dash Subharness is 2000. A 2000 civic has a different radio plug than a 96-98. I have the keyless box which runs into the MAIN harness. This is where I need help. Sorry about any confusion.
you're SOL. if you want to use it (I don't know why) you'll have to convert everything over to a 99-00. cabin harness, floor harness, drivers door harness, ecu, etc. the keyless unit for a 99-00 plugs into the cabin harness.
why not just get an alarm? it will already have keyless.
