Did a search but no luck.. what are the differences between the 2, & what do they exactly mean? Is it just a newer/older year harness's?

You might want to try " ECU IDENTIFICATION"

obd1 service connector is a 3 wire plug. obd2 has a bunch(lol, i cannot remember how many) i think maybe 10-16 wires. it is a wide plug.

OBD1 and OBD2 will both read live data on a high end scanner such as the snap on solus i have.

OBD2 ecu's look for more sensors than obd1
obd2 is a smarter system and stock for stock obd2 usually gets better mpg due to better STOCK programming (fuel trims/ignition maps)
obd2 is much less sought after when reprogramming ecu for tuning
obd1 is much more usable when it comes to tuning
obd1 allows you to add a socket which will take a chip that is burnable with different mapping
obd2 has 2 oxygens sensors as obd1 only has a upstream.
many obd2 ecu's have immobilizer built in
no obd1 ecu had security(immobilizer)
obd1 and obd2 engines interchange (block and head)
^ as long as the original obd electronics are re used. (sensors)

here is just a small list of differences...

92-95 civics are obd1
96-98 civics are obd2a
99 00 civics are obd2b

& when you swap out an engine, can that Obd code change with it? My 93 Cx Hatch came with a swapped z6, & the wiring is completely messed up, I guess the previous owner had a electrical short, caused fire & replaced everything.. which makes me completely edgy about driving it considering he rewired everything.. his wiring caused the first short.
Getting back to the original question tho, can I just look at me ecu & will that tell me what obd code I have? Its a p28.
