Anyone familiar with traffic laws?
Ok, If anybody out there is a lawyer, or if familiar with law, please give me some help on this one.
A friend and I were making a video for a "team" we were starting in the Clemson, SC area. We had taken some footage of a couple of cars doing some stuff, burnouts, doughnuts, etc. I burned some of the footage to CD to give to the friend, so that he could edit it. He accidentally leaves this CD sitting on a bench inside my high school. Later that day, one of the guys driving a car in the video gets called out of class by the school Resource Officer. He says that he has a copy of the video (the misplaced CD) and that he could write him a ticket for $500 and 6 points off of his license. Does the officer have any right to do this? Also, the officer is a sheriff's deputy for the county the school is in, but the footage was filmed in a neighboring county. Any opinions or help on this would be appreciated.

I dont' htink he can do ****...it's not his property, and by looking on the disc when it was found he was invading someone's privacy, he can **** off....
<--Justin, who thinks cops need to stop abusing their power, and rent-a-cops who think they actually have any.

Since it was in a high school he may have been allowed to take it.
errr, maybe, not an expert.
Suggestion, take a min to take out 2 bolts when videotaping "illegal" acts.
Second thought, sue the pig for stealing your CD, that'll teach the lazy *** pig to do that again.

I don't know for sure, but I would imagine that he could give it to some one in the county it was filmed and they could do something about it. It would kinda be like if someone films themselves robbing a bank and the cops get ahold of it, they could use it as evidence.
Also, I would think that if the cops was going to give him a ticket for it, he would have already done so. But then again, he could have taken it to his boss to see what could be done legally.

The ironic thing is that this guy is pretty young, and his roomate sells performance car parts on the internet. Also, this guy is obviously on a power trip. This is not the first time that he has hassled people about stuff. The really bad thing is that the part of the video that has this kid's car on it doesn't show him doing anything illegal. He couldn't even get his tires to smoke, so all it shows is him driving down a road (on the proper side) and driving around in a circle, trying to do a doughnut

i really doubt he would do anything...he would have to go through a real lot for something to happen to you. good luck though man...that pisses me off to hear storys like this...as long as your not doin it in front of their eyes who gives a **** i mean everyone is a kid at sometime and did fun **** like that
can he undoubtedly proove where the filming took place? if he can't, then how can he prosecute you. If it did happen on private property and the owner of the private property did not file a complaint, then he can't do anything. cops have no jursdiction over private property unless they are requested to by the owner or there is a life threatening event happening (ie murder, rape, bank robbery).
This reminds me of those kids that were all over the national news a long time ago. They went on a huge crime spree doing stupid **** and video taped everything and somehow the police were able to obtain a copy of it.
We weren't on private property, the place where the film was shot is pretty far away from everything, so it would be fairly hard to find, unless you know where to look. I was gonna post the vid, but I can't find a place to store it. Also, the part that shows this guys face has already been taken out

yeah cops have many legal limits. Also military laws differ from laws used by civilians, many are the same, they do have their differences though, it would be very hard for the officer to use this video. Similar ebvent happend to my friends during high school. The officers spoke to his parents, they were unable to do anything else however
Do you remember the video of the guy doing almost 200 mph in his Ferrari F40??? He got busted for that because he sold the video to an undercover cop....
So yes he does have a right to give you **** for doing that....

On the disk, all that was written was "Teg-Eclipse". Also, you can identify the guy behind the wheel of the car in question. There was nothing that would make him think it was street racing or anything of the sort.
