Default Need help diagnosing a shaking suspension problem

Car is a 91 DX Sedan with stock suspension.

Here's what's going on.

I notice that the wheel slowly move back and forth (not very far) as I'm accelerating normally. The "wobbling" gets faster as I speed up. After about 70mph it's so fast that I can't really tell it's shaking UNTIL I hit the brakes. Then it shakes really bad.

My first thought was WARPED ROTORS but that didn't explain why it still shakes while I'm off the brakes.

I also noticed that there's a definite "CLUNK" whenever I go over bumps.

AND there's a clunk whenever I get on and off the gas.

I recently replaced the motor and the rear motor mount didn't look like it was bad, and I replaced the front mount with a brand new one when I put the motor in.

I was thinking it could be bad wheel bearings, but they're not making any noise, and I figured you'd be able to hear them going out long before they started showing symptoms like this.

The only other thing I can think of is the tension rods, but today I had a buddy watch me as I held the parking brake and let the clutch out in 1st and Reverse, to see if the wheels moved forward or backward, and he said they didn't move.

I already ordered new rotors and pads, since I could probably use them anyway...

Does anyone have any insights about this?

The wheel shaking isn't THAT big of a deal, but the shaking during braking can be downright scary sometimes.

Definitely wanna figure this out without just throwing a ton of new parts at the front end.

Thanks guys.

Also, the car pulls to the left A LITTLE under hard braking, but not enough to make me thing I have a bad caliper.

I had the same problem on my integra and it turned out the front drivers side shock was blown. The axle would rub on the fork of the shock causing the wheel to shake. Also , check your rear trailing arm bushings. They will cause a clunk over bumps and 90% of Hondas made before 1994 are all dry rotted and most are completely broken through.

swap your hardware too they could be worn out, but that wont cause it. sounds like shocks if its does it accel. and braking. what wheels? could be cv axles not seated all the way with the knuckle or lose suspension. i'd check wheel studs for kinks or torquing and the hub.

Check your fork on the bottom of the shock. I got mine backwards once and it was rubbing against my axle. Had similar issues.

What wheel is moving? Or you just feel like there's movement?

If the tire/wheel is moving then you got ballpoint and bushing issues.

If the steering wheel is moving you need to rebuild the rack. Common issue.
