Default Questions on rear motor mount for an EK

Could this be a bad rear mount cause the driver and passenger mount seems ok. My car started to shake a lot when it is being crank on. I open the hood and started it back up and notice the motor moving around a lot and sometime it is hard to put it in gear. Rarely also, when im coasting in 5th and let off the gas and get back on it, it will sometime kick it out of gear, is this a mount problem or something with the transmission.

1996 Civic Dx B20b with a gsr tranny.

And would I be able to take off the rear mount without the engine falling on me?

Inspect the mounts.
You're supposed to support the engine so that doesn't fall on you or out of the car. I foresee issues.

Looks like the tranny top mount and the rear's rubber are messed up?

Also, the guy I bought the car from told me that because the rear mount is needs replacing, it is causing the car to have some trouble going into gear once in awhile and sometime it will kick it out of 5th. Is this true?

He probably knew the person he was telling that to was naive and would believe the fix would maybe be on the cheaper side. I dont see an issue from your pics of the mounts to be causing a issue with the trans...I would think the trans itself is the prob or the linkage.
Look at your shift linkage from under the car, from the tunnel all the way back to the trans. See if it looks good.

Yo sleepy....do you think the trans would be hard to get in gear or pop out of gear from a torn mount? I see that, but am curious cause I dont see that happening from the mount.

how are the shifter bushings? Does the transmission make a growling noise? Could be input shaft bearing, bent shift forks or possibly your rear mount but even cracked it's still probably 10x stiffer than stock.

Saw my buddies teg pop outta gear on a trip to Florida from .pa his driver side mount got messed up and engine shaking made the gear pop out while driving. OP do you have the torque mounts on and in good condition? Also check your shifter bushings.

1st pic looks like how ever put the mount in just squeezed it in and was a tight fit so it scrapped the sides and gouged in the mount
2nd pic shouldnt there be a metal sleeve in the middle of the mount that the bolt goes through it looks like you dont have that sleeve so when the engine moves it has more freeplay without that sleeve
3rd pic looks like the bolt moved but that might be due to the b20 sitting different than the d16 maybe whoever put the mounts in drilled the hole bigger to get the bolt through if thaats the case then if the bolt isnt tight that that might move back and fourth.

I guess im the only one that thinks the condition of the mounts from the pics wouldn't cause the said trans issues.

I've seen people break mounts at the track and keep racing and had no trans issues

From further inspection of the mounts, i noticed that the rear mount rubber are separated if looked at from the top. The guy told me cause the mount is messed up, the motor moves a lot and sometime separate itself from the transmission lightly. Is this true? I will have pics tomorrow of it so you guys can confirm it for me.

You can see a piece of rubber not lined up right, could this be causing the shakiness and 5th gear popping out once in awhile?

Also, i have an extra oem rear mount new. I was thinking if i should use window weld or quiksteel to make it a little stiffer. Im only filling the rear mount cause the two front one are good so which liquid would be better?

I don't think you're reading your own thread. Someone already told you. Two of your mounts have blown bushings.

Ok, but my question is could the blown bushings from the mount cause the gear to pop out? It doesn't make a growl noise and shifter bushing looks good.

Alright guys, I replaced the rear mount which was a pain and the car seemed to be shifting in much smoother than before and so far, no pop out yet (knock on wood). Motor doesn't shake on start up. Thanks for all the help

if the REAR mount is in such a condition where it would allow the engine and trans to "rock" back and forth with ALOT of movement then YES it could jump out of gear due to the car uses hard stationary linkages. I will say this. being they are aftermarket (innovative it appears), i do not see it jumping out of gear with a bad mount because even a bad torn rear mount being it is a aftermarket stiff mount i cannot see it having enough movement to make it jump out of gear.

sounds like it has a internal issue with the trans

thanks good to hear, i cannot believe it had that much movement to allow it to jump out of gear

The rubber piece inside the metal mount was shot cause I could pulled the two apart, it was torn really bad. I still need to replace the other two front mounts cause they seem to be re-drilled cause they are still moving but not as much as the rear.
