My 96 D16Y8 non-vtech manual making strange noises at idle
My Aussie 96 D16Y8 non-vtec manual is making strange noises at idle and also when coming to complete stop.
At Idle and the manual transmission in neutral and the clutch out the car is making a noise that sounds almost like a "diesel motor type noise". After I press in the clutch, the noise goes away. Could it be a diff?
Also the second weird noise is when I am coming to a slow complete stop or very slowing taking off, i hear what is best described as a "ratatatat" which increases or decreases according to the RPM's. After take off I cant seem to hear it. Sorry for the rough descriptions of the noise but the best description that i can come up with in words.
The car seems to go fine though. I have had a suggestion that its a bearing in the clutch that needs replacing / which obviously also may mean a new clutch.
The car is stock except for an after market heavy duty clutch fitted a few years back which was the 2nd clutch used, the first being the stock one from new. No other mods and the car has done approximately 275,000 klms. I dont track it but I do give it spirited road driving.
One other quick question is if the clutch needs replacing, which clutch would people recommend? Exedy etc?
Thanks in advance for your help and wisdom.

Sorry, My bad it looks like the engine is a D16Y4.
Similar to this pic but without the cold air intake.

I stand corrected grumblemarc, thank you.
. Sorry about that.
Thanks Kyden so would that mean a tranny rebuild or just change those bearings? Also as the tranny may have to be dropped to get in to change those bearings would a new clutch be in the mix to do whilst the tranny is down? Sorry for the many questions.

you have to drop the transmission to do so. you would only have to change the bearings. you don't know which ones until you pull the transmission apart though.
I would probably do the clutch too, might as well while it is out of the car.
