How should I hold particular Idle speed for test procedure
I am attempting to follow a procedure in the Service Manual and one of the first things it says to do is "Run the engine at 1500-2000 RPM." Is there a proper way to do that or do I just find the right size stick to jamb against the pedal?
Well that would make it rather difficult to perform the other steps in the procedure which require me to be elsewhere. So I enlisted a helper to do as you say but they were having some difficulty maintaining the proper engine speed. I was thinking there might be a better way (like a jumper or something) since many procedures in the factory manual require that you test at a particular RPM. But your response is just what I needed... an experience person to tell me there is no better way.
you could loosen the throttle cable adjustment nut and manually adjust it to hold the throttle plate open enough to idle that high. do your tests, then set throttle cable properly.
or use a stick, or a friend with a more precise foot.
