D16y7 Manuel trans swap to d16y8???
Ok so I have a 96 civic dx Manuel transmission with a d16y7 motor in it and my sister has a 97 honda civic ex with a d16y8 motor but her civic is automatic and she crashed the rear of it and I'm wondering if I can put her motor on my car. Would it be simple cuz it's y7 to y8? And would the wiring be difficult because my civic dx is non vtec?
It has been done. Look up how to do the swap. It's not simple nor straight-forward.
BTW, with the long gearing of the DX transmission, you'll probably wish you would've gotten the EX transmission.

I'd get her wiring harness as well. You'll want a 96-98 P2P manual ECU and you have to manually wire in the secondary 02. Like Marc said though the DX trans is gonna kill it.
Is there any way I can use the automatic ecu? And about the wiring, is there a major difference between non v tec to vtec like can I wire up vtec manually?

Do NOT use the wiring harness from your sisters car. This is a common suggestion made by many who are very comfortable with the EG ('92-95) style chassis and almost all engine harnesses are very similar... the chassis harnesses vary slightly but can be augmented to support the engine harness used.
Here is the real issue with the EK ('96-00) engine harnesses: The crossover (green) plug near the ECU end of the engine harness will have wires that do NOT match up to the chassis... this will cause many issues that you will struggle with. You are better off using the engine harness that you have now and simply add the two wires for VTEC... VTC and VTS. Also, you may have to add a knock sensor wire if you use a '96-98 EX manual ECU (37820-P2P-AXX). Lastly, you will have to convert the IACV to a 2 wire plug instead of the 3-wire plug you have now... and this requires a small pin change at the ECU plugs as well.
(By the way, one could use that extra wire from the IACV for one of the two VTEC wires... and only add one wire for VTC and one for Knock.)
Lastly, if you really want to make the wiring VERY simple: Buy a OBD-2A-to-OBD-1 ECU adapter harness, a P28 ECU with a custom chip which has VTP turned off, use the orange wire from your 3-wire IACV for VTS... move the two pins to their appropriate locations at the ECU (orange wire to VTS and BLU/BLK wire to IACV) and then NO WIRES HAVE TO BE ADDED TO THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE ENGINE HARNESS... only between the throttle body and the VTEC assembly.
Good luck.

You CAN use an auto ecu, youll just get a CEL. I used to run one on my ek and am running one on my integra now. No big deal. Just make sure you use your flywheel from your y7 because if y8 is automatic, there will be an auto flywheel. And wiring is pretty easy, look it up. Jrcivic1's info is on point. Good luck
