Default 99 civic si tachometer help plz.

My tachometer works but it doesn't.. and what I mean by that is when I start the car it comes up to 2grand sitting there idling...I no its not idling at 2...and then when I go to accelerate its moves up real slow (not with the speed of the engine)..and when let off gas pedal its slowly falls back to 2.. has stock ecu. I am not a noob at driving 5 speed an don't need it but I would like it to work since I wanna restore the car.. help plz

Does the tach needle drop to zero when the engine is off but the key is in ON(II)?

Could also be a bad tach wire or even ECU.

if it's an autometer gauge, to my recollection. with their gauge are different colored wires.. I believe the orange/brown wire i wanna say? ( dont remember has been 7 years)
you connect or disconnect these wires specifically to the number of cylinders. Look up an autometer schematic for your gauge. or the gauge schematic...
you messed up the wiring somewhere.

I think you don't connect eaither the brown or orange wire if you have a 4 cyl. orange only for 6 and both brown/orange for 8? i don't know. contact the manufacture.

if the gauge is responsive it's fine.

Tachometer or any meters in your dash works with the coils in the back being magnetized at certain rate to spin the needle. Being said that, your tachometer is not good anymore because the coils are bad. You need to replace it. It's not very hard.

If you pull a junkyard tach out of a cluster, why wouldn't the needle be on it?

Sounds like you need to replace the tachometer.

Right. I was thinking about swapping the coils only like I did with my speedometer to not mess with the odometer. My bad. Edited.

Screw that. Just swap the whole unit. Make it easy on yourself.
