1987 civic CRX??
Hey everyone, I am new to the civic scene, and I am about to get a 87 CRX and was wondering if this is a good car to fix up and maybe do a motor swap. I really wanted a 92-95 hatch but I am getting this car for free and it is in good condition. One other thing what is the difference between the si and hf model crx? Sorry so many simple questions. I did a search and didn't come up with any of this info. Thanks for any help.

great car, have 2 myself. whitch do you have si?hf? the si came with MPFI( fuel injecton) hf cam with carbs. either one cane big made into decent street car with few mods, even to the stock motor.
These are great cars to modify due to their very light weight. If you do a swap, you will have one very quick car.
About the only thing bad about these cars is the lack of aftermarket support for parts. There are not a lot of suspension choices out there, but the parts that are available are good.
As for the SI vs HF. The SI has MPFI and the HF is carburated. This becomes a big concern when doing a swap. There are many other differences such as a sunroof and nicer interior on the SI.

Thanks guys for the info. I m not sure which one I will be getting yet. My sister in law has it in New jersey and is towing it down when she comes to visit next month. If it is the hf can a fi motor be put in, or do you have to stick with the carb motors. I have the vin number but can't figure which one it is. Thanks again for the info.

SO SO FUN................yes a si engine could be transplanted, but would require way more work than you would want. if it is a carb engine you could bolt on a set of webers, xaust and ride out. try this........http://www.redpepperracing.com/forum...t=ST;f=2;t=650

Thanks for all the info guys. I found out that the car Im getting is fuek injected. I have been looking around the web trying to find more out about an engine swap. I read on a website that Hasport makes motor mounts to fit the b18c1. I have also seen that the axles need to be swapped and the ecu and wiring harness. When they say that you need all these things, does that mean I need those parts from whatever kind of car the motor comes from or custum length axles for the 1st gen crx? Sorry so many questions. This seems to be the largest honda tech type of site that I have found and a good place to get info.
Thanks again

Since the car is fuel injected, you can swap in a B16 or a first generation Acura Integra engine (D16A1) without as much difficulty. I believe to fit the D16A1, you will also need the Integra transaxle and engine wiring harness. http://resource.crx.org used to have alot of info on this swap.
great cars awesome for autocross. check under the car, in front of the rear axel; that's where possible rust can appear and be expensive to fix. there are some good suspension, and other tweaks at http://www.opmmotorsports.com. very fun car. enjoy.

also, some companies offer parts for this car, just don't list them in mainstream places.
