Default Slow turn over, but still starts.

Hey guys, my 92 lx coupe recently started this slow turn over sound when i turn the car on, it always turns on but this is obviously not normally behavior. I had the battery tested its rated for 700 cca and came out at 728cca, 12.78v. I doubt its the alternator as its only a few months old but it could be(no charging light indications yet). Could this be my starter or something else? Its stock starter from what i can tell. Also, it only takes one maybe two slow "Chugs" then it turns on.

If it were the alternator, your battery wouldn't last long. One way to check the alternator is to start the car up and turn on everything electrical (lights, high beams, fan, etc) to put a load on it. Then, measure the voltage at the battery terminals. Alternators usually put out about 14.4 - 14.7 volts.

It certainly could be that the starter is tired, but I wouldn't necessarily go replace it without checking other things. You might consider taking off the cables at the starter and cleaning them up to see if that helps (disconnect the battery first). Also, measure the voltage at the starter when you're starting it. The cable could be corroded or some strands could be broken inside, creating high resistance.

parts store alternators are a real crapshoot, especially autozone alternators as most don't know how to test the dual-mode that honda uses...going by recent experiences myself.

mines still an autozone...when I lightly or moderately load it it will hold up but when i throw everything on it barely puts out 12.6..at some point I'm going to have to give it back to em and man up and get a real alternator...denso reman from rockauto..which is actually cheaper than I paid for my autozone junk
