91 Accord wagon stalling
Hey everybody! I am driving a 91 Accord wagon with a 5 speed, it has 117, 000 miles. I am experiencing an intermittent stalling problem. First time it happened I was on a downhill and attributed it to low fuel. I filled it up and it seemed fine....until yesterday. It stalled twice on me on my way to go mt biking so I turned around and headed for home. On the way, it stalled on a major highway while going about 50. Each time it stalls, it takes several minutes to get it started again and then it runs fine! I replaced the distributor about a month and a half ago. There is no indication that the vehicle is going to stall and check CEL! Thank you for any assistance you can give me!
Can you provide some more information? When you try start it after it stalls, does the engine crank over? Can you hear the fuel pump running? Also, have you tried removing the gas cap after it stalls and then starting it?
Because of the fact that it takes a few minutes for the car to get started again this sounds like a textbook main relay case. The next time it dies...i would just idle it in the drive way until it does...immediately turn the key to ignition without starting it and listen for the fuel pump to prime. If not, then it's probably the main relay.
Sorry I haven't been on lately...no wifi at home. The vehicle is a five speed. When it stalls, the engine cranks over but will not start. I read a few posts on here about the PCM ground under the thermostat so I extendex and affixed it elsewhere and all seemed good. Apparently, that was not the issue as the car left me sit again. I forgot to loosen the gas cap and then try to start it. It also left us stranded earlier this week. I pulled a plug wire from the distributor and my gf cranked it....no spark!!! I am supposed to stary school in a month and I need to depend on this thing!!!! Help....PLEASE!!!
Some progress on things.
When it dies you are missing spark....now the fun - Why?
Next time - check for spark from the coil to the dist cap. If there, check for voltage on the BLK/YEL wire going to the dist.
