Anyone use Megasquirt
I'm building a car where I can't use Neptune, Hondata,etc...so I don't have many options. I just want to know your first hand experience with megasquirt if you actually used it. I know the MS1 isn't popular but the MS2 or MS3 seems to look better.
Its not plug and play friendly. Everything has to be customized and if you run into problems your pretty much on your own, or expect to lose lots of sleep and endless hours trying to fix the issues. I have a megasquirt 2, V3.0 but I never got it to run on a Toyota 4age 20V. Simple small settings make a big difference but cost wise its the best way to go if you want to save money vs an AEM setup or others.
Why would they not allow hondata or neptune but allow an EMS, doesn't make much sense. If it was like this your better off with a Carb setup.

I tried. I even have the obd 0 to db harness. It was impossible to tweak the MS to read VR and I lost interest.
Total thread necro... Dude, did you build a proper VR conditioner, or use a module from an HEI to get your tach/tdc signal?
It seems the Honda crowd isn't fond of MS, which is a shame. The MS3x is capable of so much more control. Yes, you do have to become an EFI expert, but isn't that part of the point?

I was able to get my MS3x V3.57 board working with the stock Honda TDC & CKP sensors. All I did was change the jumper configuration @ JP1 and J1. Then a couple minor adjustments on the 2 VR pots.
It's not THAT much more control. I do advocate Megasquirt, but when it comes down to it nobody will notice a difference between MS3 and Honda-specific hardware after a good tune, and there is considerably less config time on a Hondata/ Neptune basemap no matter how many MS tunes I've done.
And let's be honest, I've had way more MS units die for no reason than Hondata or Neptune systems -- although Hondata does take a close second.
I just had two defective injectors drivers on a new MS3, they failed after a 2-hour dyno on a Celica. I had another one a month ago that was bricked right out of the box. I choose not to tune them unless I have to.

I agree 100% that the OEM ECU units are great for your everyday usual builds. For someone who wants more expandability and freedom to control pretty much everything.... MegaSquirt, Motec or Haltec are the way to go!
