Default 05 Civic Si A/C Issue

I have a strange issue with my A/C. At idle or normal city driving it blows ice cold. When I get up to speed on the highway it either blows ice cold or warm and cycles.. like 20min warm then 2-3 min of ice cold. This only seems to be a problem on humid days at night it works fine.

Both fan motors work, I checked to make sure the drain isn't clogged (drips water when running) I also did a test with gauge from an A/C refill kit and the pressure was in the green when the engine is running with the A/C on.

The only thing i can think is that the evaporator is getting too cold at highway speed and one of the sensors is disengaging the clutch. The other thing I was thinking is that the evaporator drain isn't draining well causing the evaporator to freeze up.

Thanks for any suggestions

tino 86. I had a similar problem with my 01 civic. It got better after I charged it correctly per the Civic charts (I just attached this chart a few threads ago for Civic05). I would ignore AC charge kit readings and only use the OEM charts with a proper manifold. It still cycled and eventually my compressor clutch pulley started howling. Replaced that and it's been in good shape ever since. I'd hit up harbor freight or autozone for a manifold and cheap thermometer and you'll never have to wonder if it is the charge causing it again. Just my two cents.

I had the exact same problem that Tino86 has for my Civic.
What fixed it for me was when my mechanic had moved the A/C compressor and alternator stuff around the engine bay to install a new timing belt. The system has been (seemingly) working fine ever since. I think an electrical connection needed to have the contacts cleaned.

I had the same symptoms on my rsx and it just ended up being a worn a/c compressor clutch. However it could be any number of things. I would recommend checking the voltage of your compressors coil as well if you haven't already done so. Hope this helps.

Best of luck man.

Start by checking for the proper charge.

I have new compressor, receiver/dryer, expansion valve, 40mins vacuum, 5oz pag 46 according to the compressor specs, 550KGS of 134A what says on the sticker located in the engine bay and my AC barely gets cold during the day and not too cold at nights, compressor stays on at all times. this got me so frustrated since i decided to change everything so i wont have headaches btw i have an 01 civic lx

anybody had this experience before? any solutions would be really appreciated!
