Icon6 Just Brought Home a 2002 Accord

My In-Laws just bought "their last new car" and donated this one to my daughter - we're now a 4 Honda family. This is a 140,000 mile 4 door 4 banger AT Special Ed car that included the sunroof - she's over-joyed about that.

It's a pretty clean car from northwest Florida that just made its 1,500 mile trip back to New Mexico with little drama, however...

1. The gear indicator light in the floor shifter is out as is the clock light at night.

2. The trunk had 2 inches of standing water in it. What do you suppose would be the most likely path?

3. The wiper blades cycle too far to the left, would someone here advise where they normally sit at rest?

I sure would appreciate the groups thought and suggestions how to get to the burnt bulbs and sealing the trunk. I'll be checking the brakes out tomorrow, but can find my way around that pretty well.

Many Thanks from the 505.

George

Congrats on the acquisition!

My parents have the exact same car (it was supposed to be their "last new car"!) and I'm heading over there tomorrow for Father's Day, I'll measure their wiper position and get back to you.

For the bulbs, have you checked the fuses?

As for the water, I'm not sure about the 6th gen, but I know that for the 4th gen rust or failing seals around the taillights is a know issue, might be worth checking out that their mounting bolts are tight. 2 inches is a lot of water though! Check the trunk seal as well. You could dry it all out, then spray various areas with a hose while the seats are folded down and someone looks into the truck to spot where it's coming in.

And since it has a moonroof - there are two drains from the rear of the moonroof (drivers and pass corners) - you want to be sure those drain tubes are clear.

The wiper arms might have moved. You can loosen the nut(s) and re-position the arms a bit lower on the windshield and see it that takes care of it.....or there can be worn bushings in the linkage of the wiper transmission.

EDIT: Just to be clear there are four drains for the moonroof - two in the front as well.....

More info on trunk water:

AND: Don't know if the 6th gen. have the same set-up, but if so this might be of interest:

I measured the wiper alignment: passenger wiper is 1" above plastic moulding under the wiper arms on each side of the wiper, driver wiper is 1.5" above the plastic moulding on the passenger side wiper end, and just under 2.5" on the driver side wiper end.

On my 98, the taillights leaked water into the trunk... tried re-sealing, but I had to replace them to solve the problem.

A common trick to re-seal is to make a thin gasket or cut a replacement seal out of thin minicell (I saw a post that said yoga mat material is good!)

One other thing to check out is the antenna mount.

The clock light burning out is actually pretty common on the 6th gen accords, a lot of people at 6thgenaccord.com have that same problem but never fix it, including myself.
http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/s...lock+light+fix If it's the bulb and not a fuse, this might be a fun thing to do

Thanks all - I've adjusted the arms a lot, there's just too much play in them. I think its time for a new wiper motor or linkage arms. I've played around on other cars with the linkage, etc and was lucky enough then to have a service manual... That is not the case here. Can y'all throw me a bone and give me some tips on the removal and replacement?

has anyone played under one of these? I was think of going to a local pic and pay, figured that since it hardly rains here in the 505, they should be in good shape. Talk to me nice and I can try to find some un-rusted parts for you all. So, what say you?

George
