92 Civic VX- doesn't start most of the time
I recently went to start my car and as usual it tried to shut down when idling for a little while, but it was different from usual cause the issue didn't go away. I started to drive it and it seemed like it wasn't getting enough gas, I didn't make it very far before pressing the gas pedal does did nothing, it wouldn't accelerate or hold any speed and that's when it shut down. I changed the fuel pump because I thought that was my issue, it still didn't start, changed the fuel filter still didn't start, tried a different set of injectors and checked that it was getting gas all the way to the cylinders, which it was, i got it running today by choking it by covering the intake, it idled very weakly and when I hit the gas hard it seemed like it wanted to die, I switched out MAP sensors and haven't gotten it to start again. Sometimes when trying to start it it will sound like it wants to start but can't get the RPMs high enough to stay running. Also I checked all plugs for spark and they all were fine, I'm lost and have no idea what else to check, please help! I feel like it has to be some type of sensor though
Main relay maybe if it hasn't been replaced yet... it's probably due mine lasted 20 years before the car would stop starting after sitting out in the sun. You don't have any CEL?
I have a cel but it's for coolant sensor, and it wasn't in the sun, it was at 2 am and it doesn't start basically ever now unless choked and then it barely runs
I was starting to think that the timing belt slipped a few teeth and checked and the timing was off, put it back on, might've still been off a tooth and was gonna fix it but it was running, so I was gonna take it for a drive and it died about 100 feet down the road the same way it did before, seemed like it wasn't getting gas and the gas pedal stopped having any effect on speed or rpms and just died off, I also resoldered all the spots on my main relay which didn't change anything
It seems like it would be the main relay, but it happens whenever I try to drive it, if I just start it it's fine, can anyone offer any advice or stuff that's happened to them like this and what you did?
I just bought a new one now and I'm waiting on getting a different distributor cuz all the wires in mine cracked so one I get a new one ill let you know if it runs goof, it should though

Doubt its main relay. My VX use to not want to start when sitting out in the sun but after it got going it never had any power loss or random shut offs when idling. But if you have not replaced main relay you deff should
:edit see that you have replaced it. Replace the spark plugs and wires as well.

I've already replaced the distributor, cap and rotor, spark plugs, wires, all that and it still misses, I cleaned the IACV and now it runs even worse... Still misses a lot and when it gets warm it idles at super low RPMs and is very bogged down when actually in gear
I cleaned the IACV and it started up but still had issues and then I cleaned the FITV and it no longer starts... The fuel pump won't prime, I don't even think it's kicking in
Also it's throwing code 23 which is for a knock sensor and code 48 which is for a heated oxygen sensor and code 6 for coolant temp, also for some reason after cleaning the FITV the CEL is very dim in addition to the fuel pump not working
This^ info really belongs in the first post.
I didn't think the VX had a knock sensor. Are you sure it's code 23? What ECU?
Fixing code 6 may help with the starting issue, but you'll want to fix all the codes as soon as possible.

I believe it's the p07 ecu and it was only throwing code 6 before, I just don't know what to fix to correct it, and I just want to get it to stop missing so I can drive it....
Changed the 2 coolant temp sensors under the distributor, they were used ones that I had laying around, it's still throwing code 6, are there anymore coolant temp sensors anywhere? And when I rev it up the tons only slowly drop, I'm thinking I didn't put the fitv back in far enough, not sure if its supposed to be screwed in tight or what
FITV open will only affect your startup. It will have high RPM in the beginning and it'll drop back to normal as soon as FITV gets hot. You said starting is not a problem anymore? Maybe you need to fix that timing belt jump you said you think it's still off by a tooth. Engine misses a lot with a tooth off also.
I already put the timing back on, sorry forgot to say that, it runs pretty good now just has a little bit off a hunting idle sometimes and when I rev it the Rpms don't drop as fast as they should, but the revving thing is only when it's warm actually so is the hunting idle, any suggestions?
I got the CEL to turn off finally, but I'm still having an issue and I need to solve it fast cuz I need this car for my daily driver. Once it gets a little warmed up its like it loses all of its power, like it can't hold speed at anything above maybe 40 tops, I don't know what it could even be at this point...
Ok, so I shorted the thing again to check codes just to see, even though the CEL was off and it is still throwing the 3 codes I stated earlier but sometimes the CEL goes off and other times it turns on... I'm confused, and where would I find the CAT? Isn't that something in the exhaust
