Keyless entry for 2001 Honda Accord Coupe, EX
Hello, first time here.
My car knowledge extends to holding the phone up to the engine, and asking my mechanic brother to tell me "what that sound is." Okay, I'm not THAT bad, but close.
I bought my car several years ago from a used car place. Seller said I could purchase key fob and program keyless entry, since it was factory installed. I went to the local Honda Dealership and bought the fob. In a hurry, I decided to program it at home. (Hey, there's a YouTube for everything these days)..2 hours later and several blisters on my thumb I went back to the dealer and they could not program it either.
I was told it would cost at least $600 just to look at it and if it was broken, more to replace it. I declined and decided I would go through the arduous task of manually unlocking my doors.
So now, I'm thinking...maybe it was removed in which case, do I look under the steering column or in the door? If it is broken can I get a replacement or must I get an after market system? Are there schematics for my car somewhere?
My security alarm definitely works (I have made the mistake of unlocking the door through an unopen window...my nephew still won't go with me to the grocery store anymore...)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kate

would be much easier to just replace it with an aftermarket unit.Best buy sells keyless entry units for $150 installed with 2 keyfobs.
