Default Buying an rsx-s from a private seller. HELP!

Hey guys I recently stumbled upon an rsx-s for sale. 2002 and 113,000km,or roughly 80,000 miles. Asking price was reduced from $11.5k to $9.5k over time because the owner could not find a buyer. Interested, I met up with him and got it inspected at my work, cost about $150. It needs a new clutch, and a few other minor things that they said would cost about $1500 worth of repairs. Aside from that, there is a slight dent in the aftermarket exhaust, and a minor headlight problem. He lowered the price to $9,000 for me. My dad said to pay $8000, which I find incredibly low,but slightly fair considering after all the repairs I'd be spending around $9,500 anyways. What should I pay?

$8000 seems fair, even $8500.

well a clutch would cost you around $800 if youre going OEM (figuring an exedy oem replacement kit is about $150, plus shop labor) what other repairs does it need?

If he drove it like I drive my RSX, then you are probably going to have to replace the timing chain tensioner around 150k as well. Other than that, in 100k miles i've had mine, it has been a basically maintenance free car.

Nothing too serious aside from a worn out clutch. He installed the bulbs on the headlights himself and did it wrong. Aside from that, minor leaks and the dent in the exhaust isn't a huge issue for me, especially since he'll give me the oem exhaust with it. He said hi friends could do those repairs way cheaper than retail would. So I said I'd pay the 9,500 if he did so. Honesty I think $8000 is really fair, considering I'd be paying around $10,500 after repairs if I paid him $9000 for it. If I'm gonna pay 10,500, I might as well just find a better rsx

Yeah I actually have no clue why people are asking so much. All the other ones I see range from $10k -$14k . And they have higher mileage than this one too!

You can find an rsx that doesnt need any work at all for cheaper than that. You just gotta have the patience to look around and not jump up on the first rsx you see.

You should just do the repairs yourself. A clutch isnt that hard to install, its just time consuming.

Keep looking man. I picked up an 03 type-s for 6200 about a month ago. You can absolutely get a better deal if you just wait around a bit for one. Also i feel If you're paying over 9k I feel you should at least be getting an 05-06. Best of luck to you though man.

I wouldn't let him do the repairs because if he screwed up wiring headlights, I wouldn't go and trust him to change the clutch and gaskets for the leaks. Just my opinion
