so i came out to las angles from missouri to see family in my 93 del sol. along the way i had some trouble and now i am going to have to put a new motor in my car. it has the d15b7 in it now but its about fragged. im wanting to know if there is another motor that i can put in the car with out needing a new ecu or wiring harness? if not what all heads will work for that block? (yes i searched the forum and yes there was all kinds of info but most of it i was to dumb to understand... i am kind of new to Honda's) next thing is are there any members on here in the Granada hills area or within 30 or so miles that have a space that i could pay them some cash to work on my car at there house? i am not alowed to do it here at my family's place. and last but not least if you are local and are looking to get rid of a used motor that i can use to rebuild hit me up with your price by way of a pm. thank you all in advance.
If the motor is crap then just dump it at a pick a part in North Hollywood off the 5. If it still runs then throw it on craigslist for a few $$. Since your in LA again go on craigslist and you should be able to pick up a motor cheap or if you want to get crazy go to Hmotors and get something a bit peppier for the car.
If it is just a blown head gasket then just pull the head and have it surfaced real quick (4 hours for mine) get a new OEM head gasket and put it back together.
If the head is bad then again up in north Hollywood they have pick a parts for miles.
Craigslist has whole motors rebuilt for 600 dollars

Whats wrong with the current engine? Be descriptive, You may not have as big of an issue as it seems. I've fixed "Blown" engines with a new $10 thermostat more than once.
You can use just about any D series block with that car with a little messing around, Nothing too major. Post what engines you find locally and I'd be more than willing to advise you on which one would be the best fit for your car. Do you have a decent amount of tools with you?

You can use just about ANY d series motor with your ecu and wiring harness as long as you use reuse your intake manifold. Don't expect everything to be 100% but it will drive.
I'm a big fan of the d16y7.

Since you are in LA you are in the vicinity of H-Motors Online http://www.hmotorsonline.com. They are off San Fernando Road in Burbank. Stop by their warehouse, and they will get you all set with what you need (Call them first and make sure they have a motor in stock). I've bought engines from them before and they are reputable. If you show up with cash they will wave sales tax
If I were in your shoes I'd drop in this (knowing it wont be 100% functional without modifications):
30021 - D15B SOHC VTEC Long block
130Hp 92-98 Civic VTI (JDM)
$ 795.00
Find someone selling a D16Z6 P28 ECU, don't wire up the VTEC (yet). It will get you back to Missouri (with a check engine light the whole way), but it will get you home. Then you can do what is necessary (wire up VTEC).
Although honestly wiring up the VTEC solenoid will take you all of 20 minutes tops with some 18 gauge wire and a soldering iron, and like someone posted above if you need additional parts there are several pick and pull yards in North Hollywood

Beat me to it lol. On the plus side, I don't think it's physically possible to get a speeding ticket rockin one of these under the hood.

I'm guessing they were impressed the y7 even got there in the first place and cut him some slack...

In California:
It is and continues to be an arrest-able offense (at the judgement of the officer at the time of the incident). It is an immediate 6 month license suspension, 2 points on your record, $400 fine (probably more now), and the infraction stays on your record for 7 years. During which I paid extortionist rates for car insurance.
Edit: At the time I had a D15B7, not a D16Y7. Technically the Y7 has similar performance albeit in a slightly heavier car.
I've just had good luck with them over the years; I've had 3 of them in 3 different cars. One had a greddy kit with just an fmu, injectors and walbro pump...never had an issue. Another was in 1994 Cx w/ a d16y8 trans, ebay header, 60mm exhaust and a p75 ecu and it ran cosistant 15.3-15.4@88~mph. They're readily available everywhere you look and a majority of them came from automatic vehicles so they tend to be in decent shape. This guy did not say that he was looking to make power, he said he just wants to get home.

sorry for taking so long been working all day. so the lower end has a soft knock and the head gasket is blown and or the head is cracked. i was going to pick a part a new block and head and just rebuild it before i head back home to stl. not real sure on that yet as i have to find some where to do the work. thank you all for the info. i looked on cl for a motor but dident have much luck. ill have to see what happens
When your on CL just go to the autoparts and type honda d15b7 in the search bar and you will get an explosion of honda engines of various types.
There is a d15b7 head on there for 60 dollars and you could probably talk him down on that price

well after doing some looking i decided to just tow the car back to missouri by way of a rental truck seeing as i have other things to take back now as well. thank you all for the help and suggestions. i did the math and i will be saving well over 200 in machine shop bills if i do it that way.
Good luck! You should buy a motor while you're out here, and put it in the back of the truck
Hmotors is close, and you'd save yourself tax and shipping

ok i found a 94 d15b vtec motor for my car. so what i want to know is do i need the ecu to that motor now or will my d15b7 ecu get me by until i get back to Missouri. im super low on funds and will have to wait till i get home to get one. we are still towing the car back but i will need to drive it for a few weeks till i have the cash. again thank you all for your help
You can get away with your current ecu but you won't have vtec capability. If you don't need to go above 4800 rpm, you won't notice the difference. If you know your way around honda's, you can wire the vtec without the need to get another ecu.
